Hi all,

I'm a new member, but I've been reading on occasion your posts.  I know that there are a couple of people that have had their surgeries done in Norman..OKC.., but live near Tulsa.  Do you all have a support group here locally that you guys go to?  Or, do you just don't participate?  I think it would be helpful for me to get the questions answered and learn tips from others. 

My surgery is scheduled for Oct. 8th.

 

Welcome to our group!   I live in the metro, so I can't offer advise on support groups in the Tulsa area, but there are a few folks on here who I'm sure will share the information. What surgery are you having? Cathy

I'm having RNY.  My insurance only covers this type...most people I've met so far have had RNY and they seem pleased.

Welcome to the group!  We're glad to have you in the family! I'm not sure.  You might call some of the surgeons off that direction and see if they have support groups.  Most groups - it doesn't matter who did your surgery - it's the coming together for the common good that matters. I am a new member also , i live here in OKC , so i am fortunate to have lots of resources available to me .  I have to say the support group was wonderful , I went to my first one this past Sat. I think in the coming weeks it will be so helpful to have people i can turn to who have been there !!  When i was there i really felt that i "fit in" if that makes sense . I was just so excited and i felt happy for the first time in a long time , because i can see i have made the right decision and i am at complete pleace with it .  Hope everyone has a wonderful week ahead .  Isnt my ticker cute hehe

Congrats on your up coming surgery & new you.  I live in the Tulsa area, but going to Dallas TX for my surgery.   I don't know of any support groups here.  There was one starting up in Broken Arrow but it fell apart before it really got started.   Let me know if you find any out there.  Keep me posted on your journey!! -Sandy    

You know, I understand what you mean about fitting in.  We are all there for the same reason and we can all understand what each other is going through. Of course we all have some sort of support system in place with our family and friends, but if they have never struggled with weight issues or haven't had the surgery, etc., they really aren't going to understand like your new found friends at support group.  And, you will find (if you keep coming back) that everyone else keeps coming back.  It's awesome. I love my group and look forward to getting to know everyone even more. Tonja

Hi,

     I had my surgery at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa.  The surgeon was Dr. Katsis with Surgical Associates (918-258-3738).  They have a support group.  I believe South Crest Hospital has a WLS support group as well.

Thanks!  I have the appointments with the dietician, and pulmonary function knocked out....  Three more appointments and pre-op then it will be the big day!  I was told anyone can go to Dr. Gorspe's support group too.
