making arrangements

As I had my final pre-surgical consult with Dr. Gornichec yesterday, my mind started racing.  Random thoughts continued to boggle within including... ...do I need to put together a living will? ...can my husband leave while I'm having surgery to take the kids to school, as long as he's back by the time it's over (Dr. G stated that mine will take longer than one hour)? ...do I want to find someone to come and clean my house very thoroughly before I go in for surgery (the showers, toilets, dusting fan blades, and the stuff I hate to do)?  If so, where can I find someone to just come in one time? ...do I need to clean out the pantry and fill it with protein shakes & chicken broth? ...do I need to tell my family that I'm having another WLS (hubby and mom are the only ones who know because when I had my VBG, I heard "it will never work" a bazillion times from dad & brothers and I don't want to hear it again)? ***sigh*** Cathy

Hey Cathy, As far as telling others-  if you want to - then do - but if you don't - it's none of their business.  Who cares what they think. LIving will - it's never a bad idea. Yes, hubby can take the kids to school. If you are going to have someone clean the house - would you mind having them come to my house too while they are at it.  YES!   It wouldn't hurt to go ahead and have some protein and chicken broth. You are going to do great!  Looking forward to hearing that it's done and you are doing great! Tonja

Have hubby leave cell phone number with nurse.  When I had foot surgery this year my surgeon told my friend just to go home and he'd call her.  He said, and I quote "it's not like you could do anything anyway if things went wrong....."  No bedside manner, but a great surgeon. ...do I want to find someone to come and clean my house very thoroughly before I go in for surgery (the showers, toilets, dusting fan blades, and the stuff I hate to do)?  If so, where can I find someone to just come in one time? That is up to you.  I waited to tell anyone I was unsure of until after I had the surgery, under the theory that presenting them with a done deal left no room for "argument".

Hi Cathy, I have went and had a living will, a estate will and all funeral arrangements done.Just in case. My reasoning want to make sure every angel is taken care of. Plus it never hurts. As for the cleaning up...I owned a cleaning service in NC. When you have a select few items to clean and its aone time deal. usually the cost will be greater than if you have them do a through cleaning. Just call different services and see and then some need at least a few day notice. PLEASE make sure that they are bonded and insured, and have a business licenses. Make them show you the paperwork. Reasoning to protect you if something is broken, stolen etc. Plus it shows that they are pros.  I really don't see a reason that he can't leave to take the kids to school. Cause he can't do anything but pace. Personally John can stay home or go to work I believe he would make me more nervous then comforting.  I would not go stock up the pantry with protein shakes and broth..Just buy enough for one week cause your taste buds are gonna change....just be sure to have sugar free popscicles and sugar free pudding, and water. Why tell anyone that you are having another surgery? You have told those that are important who else is their to tell. Just relax and it will be here soon. Hugs to ya, pattye

Do you guys know how much I love you? Oh, and because I can get answers from here rather than try to come up with my own rationale (which if often times very very stupid), my husband loves you guys, too. Just got back from Wal-mart with my pre-op diet supplies.  $100 of groceries for me with the "DO NOT TOUCH" stigma attached.  $13 of groceries for the rest of the family.

I am praying an extra prayer for you... for the lord to put your mind at ease. He is watching over you and you will be fine and blessed..  oh, and I say go for it with the cleaning. get someone else to do it. you may concider getting someone you know who needs a little extra money to come in and help. I pay my neice to help when I am not feeling well, my kids do a good job cleaning but she will do the stuff that they get behind on.. works well for me and her, gives her extra money, she has a baby coming in nov... and gives me a extra clean house... hmmmmmm should i send her to you? lol j/k Good Luck and God Bless Sherrie
