I do have medicare as my primary and BC/BS of Texas as secondary, I would love to have the guide lines for medicare if you have them ........I went to ASBS.org and looked up Centers of Excellence in my area and Dr. G wasn't listed there, I was considering him because all my doctors are with Integris but I've also had surgery at Surgery Center on 59th and Shields.......really like the staff there they are very good at what they do,  any help would be appreciated .   Thanks Kathy  aka:  Nana

Hi,

Thanks.  After you have your surgeon’s consult, you are required to loose 10-15 pounds, in order to get your surgery scheduled.  You are put on a high protein / very low carbohydrate diet.  It shrinks the size of your liver and gives the surgeon some working room.

Hi,

Sure it was worth it.  Your huger level is dramatically less.  I wish I was loosing faster, my band isn’t adjusted to the “sweet spot” yet.  I’m off of insulin and Actos.  I feel good; I still have a road ahead.

Kathy I am sorry to be the bearer of that news. I just did not want you to go there and then be told he couldn't do it. I wanted him too just cause of his looks....A girl could dream.... There are 2 centers of excellance here in Oklahoma the closest one is Norman Oklahoma Weight Loss Options the Doctors there are Ronnie Keith and Lana Nelson. they have a web site www.OWLO.com    The other one is in Tulsa St Francis and that doctor is Kevin Fisher. I have not found his web site yet.   Personally I am going to Dr. Keith. he has a very warm and I caring personality but he is up front. With him you get the packet off his site fill it out call and schedule a seminar. At the seminar you turn in the packet and you insurance info and then get started. He requires you to attend a Support group there before surgery. And yes family is welcome to all things concerning your surgery. It shows great support for you. His staff is friendly and caring. I was there today for my official weigh in and its like these people have known me all my life.                                          As for the requirements. Medicare  will pay for this if you are 100 pounds over weight. Your BMI must be 35 or greater with comos of at least 2: heart disease, stroke, diabetees, sleep apena, liver damage, gall bladder, high cholestral. They may be a few more but those are the major ones. Or your BMI is 40 and higher.

I attended my seminar on June 28, insurance was approved by the 7 had my first consult on the 18 and was put on a diet to lose forty pounds before surgery. As of today I have lost 14 of that.  If it wasn't for the diet  my surgery would have been the later part of this month or early September. When he told me to lose 40 he did not say why and I was very upset, I asked his nurse and I asked the nut. Today I was told why and I was apologised for not being told before. he is very knowledgable surgeon and he has taught this procedure. Check out his web page and see what you thing.  He also has an online support group called Living our Dreams. Thursday night there is a support group at Lake Overholster Nazerene Church. I want to say it starts at 7. Its informal and not religious. The moderator is a post op and sometimes brings stuff to sample. Hope this helps......blessings  Pattye
