OKLA LAPBAND/CIGNA/WHICH DOCTOR QUESTIONS

I am not new to OH, been here for several years.  Doing really well on Medifast but I am seriously considering the LapBand procedure.  I had gone to Dr. Gorospe here in Tulsa years ago about the RNY, but insurance fell through and I felt God led me a different path. Anyway, I was wondering if Dr. Gorospe is the best Dr in Tulsa for LAPBAND.  I know he is the best for the RNY, but I haven't researched the lapband in Tulsa. ALSO, I have Cigna PPO through Verizon and coverage has been pretty good so far but not really sure if they approve the lap band very easily???  Anyone have Cigna? Thanks guys!

My "version" of Cigna says that they absolutely deny this surgery. They told me that if I had done surgery prior to 1995, they would have covered it 100 percent. However, they said that they had "problems" with some of their patients, and therefore decided to deny everyone based on those experiences. They wouldn't say what the problems where...they just emphatically deny me the surgery. There are medical loan companies who will loan the money to some people, but I am going private pay. Your "version" of Cigna  might cover it. You'd have to directly check with your benefits people to see. Good luck!

You should check out Surgical Associates in Tulsa.  They are now a Center of Excellence for Bariatric surgery.  Their website is surgassoc.com.
