Star Jones Reynolds admits to Gastric Bypass Surgery
I read on CNN today that Star Jones Reynolds finally admitted to having had wls. Hurray for her. Everyone already knew it, and the worst part for her was not admitting it when she was already outed. Of course, it is a very personal decision for each individual to make, but when you are in the public eye like she is, it's probably just easier to admit so people will leave you alone. Then again, publicity is never a bad thing for a person in the entertainment business!
If she's going to be interviewed I hope I can see it. I sympathize with her and can understand why she'd try to keep it private. After you've had the surgery people will examine you to see how much weight you've lost and after you get to goal, you'll be scrutinized to see if you've gained any weight back. Look at Carnie Wilson---she had a baby and gained a little weight back and she's criticized for that. I think Carnie's very brave for being so public with her WLS experience.

I went on Medifast once and lost around 70 pounds....I could not walk down the hall at work without someone making a comment-either pro or con. Perfect strangers were askng me my weight, how much I had lost, etc. It was completely humiliating, and then of course I gained the weight back.
It really taught me alot about how to speak to people and draw boundaries with people who don't seem to have them.
Star's decision was probably based more on what she wanted publicity for at the time than fear of publicity-but who knows. When you are a well known "big woman" and then you lose weight, you risk alienating your big girl audience.
