Hi, I haven't been on the site much for a few years. I moved to Okie from Cali. 2 years ago.  I had the open ryn 4 1/2 years ago. I did well the first few years( lost about 151 lbs.) Since moving here I've gained 25 lbs. back. I'm having to diet all over again. At least I get plenty of exercise, walk at least 4 to 5 miles a day. And always have animals to work  and feed, fences to repair. It's the hurry find something quick to eat. My husband is a junk food junkie. To much temptation for me. I'm working on getting us healthier foods. I'm going to try to get back in the habit of getting on line. It helps for support.

Hi Kim!  Welcome back! What would people do with out junk food? Probably be thinner and have more money in their pockets.  I would do a protein meal replacment...like slim fast  for Low Carb diets or Atkins Advantage Shake. thats 2 of the shakes that my doc recommends.  You did it the first time so I know you can do it this time! Sounds like your life was my old one. If you aren't feeding something you are cleaning up its out put. I love farm life but I don't think  I would go back to it.... I hate barb wire and I just don't get along with some of the other parts of life on a farm!

Hi thanks for the advice. I know I can do it it I get Off my duff. I love my horses I just don't like all the fencing and stuff like that. I'm hoping to have most of the major work finished by next week. When we moved here there was no fences or barn or anything but one tiny house that I just moved my mom into. We put a doublewide on the property for us. We just started breeding our Paso fino's last year. We have a good group of broodmares started. And one good stallion. Needless to say alot of time. Praise God for family that helps. My husbands junk food kills me and he doesn't ever get above 159 lbs and doesn't do much work. He's mainly on the computer. It's just disgusting how hard some of us have to try to keep our weight down and others can do anything. I'm trying some protien bars to get my protein up. The shakes make me sick . I've tried them all. And very few bars can I handle. I nevr eat enough of the right foods It's summer I just want salads now I'm trying to add meat. It really was easier in cali. where evreyone seems weight or health concerned. Here evryone has fried foods or breaded. I hate having to peal all the breading off. Now my mom's here she's helping me. She does the cooking. (My stove blew up and no warrenty) I did weigh for the first time in 3 days and have lost 7 lbs. YEAH !! I want to lose 32 more.Sorry I took so much space and time. I don't see or talk to many people outside of my family and church.

You can write me as much as you like!  I remember the days of buildiing barns and mending or putting up fences. And the days of breeding. In North Carolina i had 8 mares and 2 studs and a hershey...a stud that was not cut completly. I loved to brush and groom them. My ex and I grew our own hay and alfafa so I was always busy and then I had a veggie garden so I was either in  one part or the other. Had chickens, plus strays and I had a rescue area for unwanted animals. I did have 2 pigs but could not stand the stinch so i sold them and got a llama. I would even sell the manure from the animals to people who wanted it for the yards and gardens. During the spring and fall I made money off of the manure and veggies plus my pumpkin patch, hay, and breeding. Out there having horses is like a luxury and I wanted the farm to pay for itself. I only miss my gardens and pumkins and the resuce animals. Once you have had a stud to corner you....you kinda start not liking them to well.  I had a mare that I bought for me to ride was suppose to be this big gentle animal and anyone could ride her. Wrong she was a terror! She hated me and my ex. One morning when I was feeding up she thought i was taking to long so she barged into the grain barn and had me cornered was rearing up and acted like she wanted to kill me. I jumped over a grain bin...ran out of the barn flew into the house. Called my ex and he came home fed up had no problem until the weekend when he went o load her up to go riding. She got half  way in the trailer reared up and laid back on him. Just like a wrestler would put someone on their back. He got up got her on the trailer and left. Never even spoke a word to me. Three hours later he drove up without her. I never asked what he done with her. The seven years we were together we never took a vacation or went anywhere together. One of us always had to be there to take care of the animals. At first his kids loved coming there and then after realizing coming there also meant work they found reasons not to come. But my family..gee I couldn't keep them away. My older sister got back inot horses because of me and after ten years she gave them up last year... I have alot of farming stories...some funny and some sad.... I know what it is like to be for the most part alone...City folks don't get it. And about the weight deal...you are right. Here its either fried, dripping in greasy gravy or wrapped up in bacon and fried... or stuffed with cheese wrapped in bacon and covered in greasy gravy.....

I'm very blessed to have my family. With the Pasos we travel alot. We do have our stud that we keep at my brothers with my gelding and stud colt I plan to have gelded soon. We take the mares over there and let them pasture beed. My boy so far is a very good boy. Most pasos if they classic fino the are more hot than the ones that largo. My stud is a largo. So far vey gentle. We've had him about a year and even when he has a mare in season he'll come up and be very gentle. But I'm very careful as you know you never know what a stallion will do. I have 6 mares 3 which are pregnant. and 4fillies which 1 will be bred in Florida this fall. The other 3 I want to wait at least 1 more year until they are 3. And then I have the boys and a 8week old colt also. One of my mares is a rescue Peruvian paso that has taken us 1 1/2 years to get healthy enough to breed but can never be ridden again due to idiots who kept riding her while she was hurt. Then of course lots of dogs (10 last count) and 2 cows, 1 goose. We had chickens but they were all killed. I want a couple llamas as gaurd animals. And a potbellie. My brother and his family help with everything. I really miss a few things about city life. (shopping, friends close by, things to do that didn't mean work.) At least I still travel. But I miss my bi-weekly trips to the coast and the fresh seafood. I think I miss the beach the most. And like I said everyone seems to think everything has to be greasy here. yuck.  My husband loves it. What kind of horses did you breed? I know I'm bad about the farm stuff but thats all I do. Boring. My mom and I are starting a Vegetable garden. That way we can have good food with out so much cost. The prices are ridiculous for fresh veggies. And I love my raw veggies. Only one of my kids will eat almost all veggies. another only raw with ranch , the others you have to argue with. Well got to go feed. thanks for the ear (or I guess eyes in this case)

all of the horses except for the heshey were spotted saddle. the heshey was a tennessee walker. i bought him for $700.00 cause the owner said he was to high strung for her. he was like a big dog. loved to be chased and to chase with the water hose. would run right up to you and then stand crock his head over and then bend down to be petted. i could put little kids on his back and he would walk like he was walking on eggshells. when one of the mares would go in to labor he was at the fence whining. he was one of a kind. i was going to buy a paso but  got talked out of it. we boarded horses too. the only time we did not pasture breed is when we used a tri color paint stud. he was trained to breed on lead rope, when the stud chain came out he started getting ****y, and when he did his 30 second job he went back to being sweet and lovable. I would sleep out in the barn when a mare was close to foaling....that is such an awesome sight! and then to see the baby find their feet and suckle for the first time....those are the best memories... My older brother would come and help out and so would his kids they loved to ride and thought nothing about helping out. lee would travel with the horses and i stayed home.....all the memories are dancing in my head.... i grow up on a farm too...but my parents had cattle and had crops...i still can go pick cotton, detassle corn, and plug tobacco..a country girl never forgets.

A aquaintance of  mine that has several different breeds of gaited horses has a couple of tennessee walkers. One of them I rode . She was a very friendly horse. a good ride. Though I like the smoothness of my Pasos. My gelding Benito is my biggest clown. He can open almost any gate and doors. When he was at my house he would go up the porch steps and into my moms house. He thought my brother was taking to long to feed him so he took his front hoof an kicked my brother in the butt. Very softly just telling him to hurry. He also plays hide n seek with whoever will play. It's a sight. He was my first horse of my own. We got him at 6 months old. He is 3 now. So far the babies born no matter what animal it is has it when I'm gone. My mares that are pregnant now 2 were bred in Florida. and 1from our stud that we bought in florida. Thats where most of the best bloodlines are. We've managed to get pretty good deal on all our horses and breedings except the last breeding. that was too much. Never again will I work with those people. They'll suck your blood dry on money.  This all of course is new for all of us. We all grew up in the city. I don't think my husband realized the work in farming. But then again he doesn't do much work, the rest of us do.  well I think I got my protien in today. I drank so much water today my eyeballs are floating. When are you supposed to have your surgery? I've had a few problems since my surgery but nothing as bad as before. I would do it over again in a heartbeat. It literaly saved my life.  I'll keep you and everyone else in my prayers

I try to check this board regularly, but notice there often aren't any new postings for days.  Tonight, I decided to start a new thread here just for the sake of stirring things up, but it was nice to see someone else had already done it. Howdy from Tulsa!
