Has anyone gone to Mexico?

I was wondering if anyone has actually gone to Mexico for their surgery. I would like the band done but I will be self pay. I just was hoping that there were people out there that have actually gone to Mexico and they could share their experience, both good or bad. Thanks :)

Lots of people are going to Mexico. Check out he South of the Border forum. There is a lot of good information about the Doctors and the hospitals down there.

Well - I did not go to Mexico for my lapband.. I know they are very cheap - And I just wanted to tell you that I had my surgery in San Antonio and it is 12,000.. He is very good at what he does so if you are not wanting to go out of the states... You might want to consider him.. Dr Rincon! Thanks for the referral. It turns out that hubby has decided that he wants to be banded at the same time as me. We figure that we are both heavy and need this done and it will work out to benefit us if we are going through the same thing at the same time. We kinda giggled and said "yeah, besides, we could go out and eat and be one heck of a cheap date for each other, lol".

I am going to go to Mexico for RNY. The doctor that does the RNY is Dr. A Wallace in Ensenada MX. he does lap band for $7,500.00.   But you will need to have aftercare lined out for fills unless you live close to  San Diego.

I am going to Mexico on 07/25/07 to have Dr. Ariel Ortiz put a lap band in. Dr. James Johnson in Tulsa was proctored by Dr. Ortiz, and is going to follow me after my surgery. After all my research, I feel very confident in my choice, but still nervous about having it done. I would like to find a support group in Tulsa, so if anyone knows of one, let me know Thanks

Oh Ditto on the support group in Tulsa! We would love to keep in touch with you through the process. Let me know how you like the Dr. and the followup care too. Where is Dr. Ortiz at in Mexico? I had a great offer for a Doc in Tiajuana for only $6900 each but I am nervous about Tiajuana. I am ay more comfortable with Puerto Vallarta.

Dr Ortiz is in Tijuana & he charges $8500. I didn't go for the cheapest, I just went with the recommendations. Dr Rumbalt in Monterey is very good, and the most expensive. Dr. Rodriquez in Acuna, Mexico is another one I found that I would go to and he $7800.00. His clinic has you go into San Antonio and they pick you up and take you into Acuna for the surgery.   I chose Tijuana because my mom lives in San Diego and I can see Dr. Ortiz if needed when I am out there. I am also nervous about Mexico in general, but I have talked to many people who have gone and said there clinic was great and had good experiences, so I am feeling better  about it.  Thinking positive!

I am going to Tijuana next week for lap band.  Having made the decision to do it, I am surprisingly calm and excited.  Of course, I associate Mexico with vacations and good times-but honey, when I roll off the plane in Akumal this December the sun isn't the only thing that's going to be HOT. Seriously, this decision was made after a lot of soul searching, researching, and even a little prayer.
