I have searched and searched for an insurance company that covers WLS and have had no luck. We have insurance thru hubbys work but WLS is a written exclusion and in order for this to be changed the employer would have to completely change plans, which I really don't see this happening... Anyway, what can I do? Does anyone know of any companies that cover this on an individual plan? I am about to the point of dealing with my weight and hoping for the best for the rest of my life...without surgery :( Thanks for any advice you can offer... Allison PS I have been looking for about 3 years now..

I attended a seminar last night for a WLS team here in Tulsa, one of the attendants I spoke to breifly said she was going to apply for Medicare / Medicaid (they cover the surgery if you can get approved to be covered by their insurance)   I guess it's worth a try, I'm going to see if I can too.  There is NO way I can pay 9,000 - 30,000 for surgery.  Good luck, I wish you all the best.

I've not seen any individual plans that cover wls. But that doesn't mean they're not out there. i'd try posting this question on the Main Board and see what answers you get there.  Laurie

Last summer I researched insurance companies for my husband's office.  One of his employees really need WLS.    After several weeks of looking at plans I came to the conclusion that no companies in Oklahoma cover obesity as a diagnosis in companies with fewer than 500 pounds. There are some finance companies that have links online. Good luck, Sandy
