I am using Dr. Katsis for my surgeon.  I think he is wonderful.  I here the same about his collegue Dr. Fisher...  I haven't had surgery but at the meetings they sing his praises.  On a personal level he is very competent and compassionate.

Hello, I'm interested in knowing if you will be having lap-band surgery, and if you have insurance that will cover it.  I will be going for lap-band surgery and don't have insurance that covers so I'm going to self pay if I can work out the financing issue.  How soon do you think it will be before you are able to complete your surgery?  I will be attending a seminar 6/4 and hope to hear some good news that the surgery won't be as expensive as I expect it to be. feel free to write me any time, I really appreciate your response. Hi Rebecca,   My story is a long one.  Ideally I want to have the lap band surgery.... I am fighting with my insurance company and have a hearing with them June 26th.  They paid for another lady who has the exact same contract I do.  She had RNY surgery last year and in the contract they don't distinguish between either surgery.  I have been fighting them for 1 1/2 years.  I am learning patience   The timing is out of my hands and I just try to take it one day at a time.  I am fighting for this.  If they paid for her surgery and it was deemed medically necessary then they should cover mine.  I am not stopping....  I just hope some good comes out of this and they learn the necessity of this surgery for some people.  One thing you might consider is SouthCrest... I have heard they are cheaper (Tracy, I think told us that)....  a few thousand dollars.  I would love to hear back from you...  I wish you the very best! Kathy in Cleveland

I went to the support meeting for Fisher and Katsis and also considered them, but I finally went with Dr. Gorospe.  I feel he has a more comprehensive program.  He does the surgery at Southcrest and Bailey Med Center in Owasso.  Good Luck

Hello, In 2005 I was going to Surgical Associates for WLS. I was denied by my insurance. I was going to use Dr. Katsis for my WLS he is wonderful and so is the staff at Surgical Associates. If I  could afford to self pay here in the USA I would use Dr. Katsis.  He is one of the best in OK. The only thing I could really say negative is that the support meetings were not that informative. Everyone spends the first 45 minutes introducing themselves and by the end of that there isn't much time for discussion. I have learned far more on this forum. I don't know how far from Tulsa you are but I would just do the required number of meetings and not waste your gas on going to anymore unless there is a guest speaker.   They do have a nice clothing exchange after the meetings and there own forum. Best Wishes on your WLS journey.

Dr. Fisher is also incredible...this man is responsible for saving my MIL from one of the deadliest forms of cancer there is. He is sweet, knowledgable and knows when to take a risk and when not to. Our family owes him SO much!!!!!!! You may want to consider him.
