Hi! I was here about two years ago and was going to have a gastric bypass. I got divorced, lost my insurance and now I'm back again on my way to being banded and feeling much better about this surgery choice. I'm scheduled to have surgery with Dr. Holsaeter on the 29th of January and would appreciate any advice, words of wisdom or just plain encouragement. I do have to say that I'm not scared at all of "not eating normally" again. What scares me the most is "attempting" to eat again. I never thought I would say I was afraid of eating. Go figure! Any way......my new life is about to begin. Yipppppeeee!

Hi! I had mine with his partner and I have no complaints! There is a lapband board if you haven't found it and loads and loads of information there! The first 6 weeks you will not have fill in your band, I'd say about 10 days out from surgery you will get your appetite back and you WILL be able to eat. This will be your last 'diet' time. If you keep control and get to your first fill then its all downhill from there. Any weight you lose pre-fill will be bonus pounds. I am averaging 1.5 lbs a week and I can say it doesn't seem fast but I can't keep clothes fitting. I have gone from a tight 3x to 18/20 or XL. I am almost in normal clothes!!! My highest weight was 286, at my first appt I weighed 270, the day of surgery and after many last meals I was 263. I just weighed in at 219 this week! I am 20 lbs from onederland!! and this was just in 5 months. One good thing about the dr's we goto is they are aggressive in their fills and thats probably a good thing. Many people need 4 or 5 fills before restriction kicks in. I had 1.6 cc put in on my first fill. Most dr's start out doing .5ccs at a time and its a slow process. Feel free to message me. I will be glad to answer any questions.

Hi Liz! Thanks so much for sharing your story and this information with me. I'm so ready for this. I am scared too. I'm not scared of the surgery or the fact that I won't be eating "normally" for a while, but I am scared of eating again.....period. Wierd! I was impressed with Dr. Holsaeter. He seemed very informative and confident. I liked that. What do you have problem eating? And what is pb'g? I'm pretty new at this. Thanks for the info! Congratulations on the awesome weight loss. I can't wait to have that feeling!

Hello Tara. I had my lapband done with Dr. Holsaeter. He is the greatest. He gave me my first fill at 4 weeks (4.5cc). You can sure fill the difference. I just went in for my 3rd fill last week. I had my lapband done on Oct. 19th. I have lost 45lbs so far. It is great. I don't get hungry. Just to let you know, if you do try something especially meat, it will come back up. The feeling of it stuck is not a good feeling. It doesn't hurt to be, but very uncomfortable. This surgery was the best choice for me. It has only been 2 1/2 months since my surgery and clothes keep getting baggy. Good Luck on your surgery, let me know how everything goes. Melissa

That is a great day to have your surgery---MY BIRTHDAY!!!!http://images.obesityhelp.com/mbgraphics/emoticons/biggrin.gif But really, you should face this as "forced" behavioral changes...Take it slow and in little bits & you will do fine!!!! Best of luck on your journey!!!
