I am looking for any advice on how to approach the insurance company. I called and was told that Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma does not cover WLS for anyone, but I know I have read on this site that some people were approved. My policy is a PPO, so if anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated.

Honey, they are LYING to you then. Because my husband's boss had it done, and I have had it done. We were both BC/BS of Oklahoma! I don't know what his boss did, but all I did was ask my PCP for a referral to someone who did the surgery and I made an appointment and they did everything. In fact, I was in surgery only 3 weeks after my 1st visit! From start to finish was only 3 weeks and I didn't have to fight or anything!

It's written in there annual handbook that it is a covered service and I have the basic BCBS-federal. I just got approved They paid all of it with the exception of your co-pay. Please get a name and number because someone needs some training. Please try again or have your doctor's office call them.

It depends on if your company (employer) purchased the rider for WLS or not. If they didn't, then BCBS won't cover it and if they did, then they will. You need to get a copy of YOUR policy provisions.

I have BCBS Of IL. and while they do cover WLS, as Tooter pointed out, my company has all WL surgery and non surgery excluded from our policy. That made me a self-pay.
