It is the time of year when my insurance company has open enrollment. The company is staying with Cigna and under the current policy, they do cover the procedure with six months of documentation of a physician directed weight loss plan. I have been doing the six month of documentation since August .... so my six months will not be up in this calendar year.
Can anyone tell me if there is a way to find out if the plan is going to stay the same in 2007? Someone told me that they thought that if I initiated a treatment plan in one year that the insurance was required to continue it through something called "continuation of care." Does anyone know if this is true?
Any help is much appreciated!
I'm am sorta in the same situation as you are. I currently have MEDCOST thru my work which also requires 6 month supervised weight loss. My problem is that we decided due to cheaper ins. and better coverage w/ Empire BCBS to go with my husbands Insurance. From info sent to me it looks like his insurance will cover WLS with just a supervised wl program. I had an appt. set for Dec. 1 but to cover myself we changed it to Jan. 19th to make sure I don't have any troubles. In the mean time I had started working with a nurtritionist myself in October and I'm just going to keep going until we receive the new policy. So I think if you've not had an appt. with your surgeon yet you should be alright. Good luck..
