Hi, I'm going to go self pay as my insurance has an exclusion. I'm having my surgery at SouthCrest in Tulsa, but does anyone have an idea on cost? And has anyone used the loan program? I'm going to get a home equity loan but don't know how much to ask for. I know the surgeons' fees, but not the rest. I think my insurance will finish paying for the testing, I have have the co-morbidities to justify them. Just need to know the hospital charges and if anyone has used the loan program that the hospital offers or anyone else that offers loans.

I think it depends on if you are having RNY or Banding. The costs are apparently different. I've also heard it's cheaper to have it done at Southcrest. When I asked my surgeon for the approx cost of RNY, he told me it was around $25,000. You might do best to get a 2nd mortgage. That would probably give you the lowest interest rates. Who is your surgeon?

I want to have the Lap RNY...Southcrest told me today that it is 16K...My surgeon is Dr. Gorospe...so will wait and see. I'm going to get up the courage to ask my employer for a loan and then take the loan out for the rest. I'm desperate to have this, I've tried everything else and just felt like my heart was ripped out when the insurance wouldn't cover. Thank you so much for your reply.

Hi, I was self pay and know how you felt when you found out about the exclusion. Except with me it was my company who excludes it from the policy. My cost for a lap RNY was around 22000.00. Insurance did pay for my pre-testing. I took a loan out with my bank for 25000.00 just in case.

Cathy thank you for your response. I've been fighting back and forth between doing it in AR or Oklahoma, since I live in AR but am closer to Tulsa, I think I"m going to go for it all and just do it in Tulsa. I'm nervous but excited at the same time. I really appreciate your response. I hope you are doing well and congratulations on your surgery and weight loss! Take Care! Shelly

When I checked with Dr. Gorospe and SouthCrest about a year ago the financial office said they actually give a big discount to self pay patients which made the hospital cost about $16,000 but that doesn't include the surgeon and anethesia fees which totaled about $10,000. If you give them a call they will give you full details and discuss your options.I believe they said they would finance up to $10,000. Dannielle
