I'm 7 days out and feeling great except I'm still tender at the portsite and if I try to walk very fast at all, it's not a good feeling. My question is: has anyone else developed a rash after surgery? It's covered my abdomen and the inside of my arms. It isn't painful, it doesn't itch and it's not even that bright, but I'm just hoping that I'm not allergic to the band. Any opinions? Marcia

Marcia: I haven't heard of anyone developing an allergy to a lapband, however, if you haven't already spoken to your surgeon about this particular issue, I would highly suggest it. There may have been something else in the surgery that caused the rash (i.e. sutures, etc.) but it is definitely something that you should discuss. Anything in these first few days after surgery that doesn't feel right should definitely be discussed with your surgeon and/or staff so that you do not get into any long-term issues. I would think about the following things: 1. Has the rash been there since surgery? Has it changed in any way - shape, intensity, itchiness, scaliness...etc. Write it down so you won't forget anything. 2. If not there since surgery, when did it start? Where were you in your dietary regime? 3. Did you make any other household changes (i.e. soaps, detergents, etc) that could contribute. Then call your surgeon's office. You should be scheduled for an appointment at 2 weeks (generally) but if they want you early, go!! One of the things we have to do as WL patients is to make sure to listen to our bodies. If something seems wrong, no matter how trivial we might think it is, there is probably a reason for it. Good luck, keep up the walking, it will help tremendously!!
