I woudl start by calling doctors & checking out their websites if applicable
My wife had the lap band on 3/23/06, after spending a lot of time researching and going to Doctor Keith's meetings. Her insurance had a $15,000 lifetime limit for obesity surgery. After asking a lot of questions at the meetings and several calls to Dr. Keith's office and Norman Regional Hospital, she was led to believe that we would be out-of-pocket somewhere around $2,000 (the magic $17,000 number). When all was said and done the total of Dr. Keith's bill and the hospital bill was about $32,000! This doesn't include the extra $1,500 or so for pre-surgery testing. Needless to say, we are not happy campers. My wife questioned Dr. Keith about this and he acted as if he could care less. His office filed their claim extremely fast and was paid 100%. We now owe the hospital because their claim was limited by the lifetime allowable. Dr. Keith's surgical skills are probably top notch, but the business side of his organization leaves something to be desired.
Dr. Gornichec has just started a new program at Baptist Medical Center. The cost for a lap bypass is about $24,900 and a lap band is $15,900. Have you considered the lap band? Dr. Gornichec's next seminar is at Pacer Fitness Center at Baptist, 5520 N Independence, on Tuesday, August 8th, 5:30-8:00. I encourage you to go and investigate both procedures.
