Still doing some looking for some other options to help me pay for WLS. Even though I work will I qualify for vocational rehab? Being that my job performance is affected by my morbid obesity. However, I find it difficult to find any record that oklahoma voc rehab has covered any WLS. Seems to be one of those cases where they will cover you for life for the accummulating co-morbidities --even though it will be a short life. Just kickin' around some ideas.

Linda, Here's what I have found out regarding Voc Rehab. Sad to say they told me that they no longer cover WLS. I have a girlfriend who moved away to California. She had her surgery out there. Her daughter is from Tulsa and was able to get it done under Voc Rehab a few years back, so I thought I would see about my son getting it. They said that the Federal Govt. will no longer cover that. This puzzled me cause I thought Voc Rehab was a state thing, but possibly they receive funding from the Federal Govt. My son began losing his ability to work in 2004 and was even worse by 2005. In June of 2005 he applied for Social Security and has been denied once. He has appealed it and is waiting. He's already seen a Social Security attorney. It's too bad that they make you go through denials cause he just continues gaining weight. Once you get so big you can't exercise, then move around well, you pretty much stay in bed and then it just gets worse. I honestly don't know what to do if you don't have insurance. I noticed it's been 2 weeks since you posted. Maybe no one else knows either. I know I've seen the surgeries many times on tv. Like discovery health channel for example. I have often wondered if those surgeons did their thing pro bono. Do you not have the option of having insurance at your job? I'll keep you in my prayers. My heart goes out to you and the tough spot you are in. Vanessa in Claremore
