Hi Dan! Congrats!
I am from the Cleveland area. My surgeon was Dr Schauer, had my surgery in July 2010.
Tips,
I would say read and learn everything you can.
Get samples of chewable vitamins from celebrate, and bariatric advantage. Love their products. Celebrate Vitamins is in OHIO!
I would invest in as many different brands sample size protein powders now before surgery. I found a lot of things were too sweet or tasted too strong post op. I still dilute a packet of crystal light lemonade in 24 oz of water.
Enjoy the honeymoon period while it lasts. Establish good new eating habits. I found at about 3 years, I really needed to start paying attention and stop grazing.
Regain is real.
I would do it again in a heartbeat. My type 2 diabetes is still in remission! I did my first 10 k at 50.

Thanks Diane!
I just finished my 6 months and have my scope on Wednesday. Then off to insurance approval world I believe. I am hoping for a Nov/December date.
Hi Dan,
I'm in s. ohio near West Union. I'm seeing Dr Siddiqui at Premier Assoc. in Dayton. No date yet, 6 month req diet started June 3rd so will finish that end of Nov. Nutrtionist said date should be around Feb. at Miami Valley hosp.
As far as tips, there are tons of you tube vids. Just type in "bariatric surgery" or "weight loss surgery" or the name of the actual surgery you are having... mine I typed in VSG for the vertical sleeve gastrectomy.
Make sure you know what your Ins. comp. requires as far as pre-surgery diet length (mine=6 months) and co- morbids, and BMI.My doc wants me to lose 20lbs from last July 28 to surgery.10 down, 10 to go.
Good luck,
Diane
Where are all the Ohio folks?
Just starting the WLS journey myself. I have selected Ohio Health in Columbus and Dr Sonnanstine.
Any tips or suggestions for a newbie?

I had mine done in Cleveland Ohio, in May of 2006,cant even remember the name of the Dr. now! I never reached my goal weight and have gained all but 43 pounds back...sure would love to have it redone! They should have a guarantee with it...and not charge for a redo!!
I did not know that you could get bariatic surgery done with Medicaid. I have lost 112 lbs., but it has taken me 7 years. I had lost 123 lbs, but as soon as the plastic surgeon said I needed to loose another 25 to have my pannus removed I started gaining. I have both Medicaid and Medicare. This is great news.

There's one with OhioHealth Weight Management. I'm not sure what day it is--I want to say third Tuesday in the month, but I'm really not sure on that.
I think they'd be cool with anyone coming, not just folks who had surgery there. The bariatric programs nearest to where I live are fine with people who've had surgery at other facilities coming to their support group meetings.
So, come to think of it, there's probably also a group at the OSU program.
Good luck!
