Heres what I would do while you were working to find a surgeon.... from what I gather from your link, senator sharrond brown was the driving force behind the legislation to get Ohios HCAP program passed and in action....contact his (Hers?) office and ask for assistance...tell them your situation and try to get some political force behind your drive....it just might work--every politican loves a token success story for election headlines ...use it to your advantage....especially in this time of healthcare debate....best of luck

The body DOES NEED CARBS so this makes sense to me when you eat the dizzy goes away.

As far as dumping goes .... dumping is dumping sometimes it happens right away otheres it might take a while.

For the vitamines just go with what your labs and what your body tells you.
FOR ME I haven't taken any vitamins in almost 4 years.....NOW is this right maybe not I only know what WORKS FOR ME. I eat ok and I'm HEALTHY.

Good Luck,
Robin

Topic: RE: Familiar with Summa Bariatric Center - Akron?????

Hi Sammy.

I am post op RNY with Dr. Z since 6.9.09.  I did alot of research on surgeons and have found him to be very experienced and qualified.  I know he seems very light hearted in the office, but once I entered that surgery room, I heard him on the phone setting up things for me and another patient and he was VERY thorough and serious.  I feel very comfortable putting my life in his hands (or at least as comfortable as anyone could).  He put me at ease and gave me so much reassurance that I would be very well with this process.  At the same time as my RNY, I also had my gallbladder out and a hernia repaired.... don't be surprised, it's not that uncommon to do all at the same time if needed.

I also spent time with Dr. Wells.  He is terrific and a strong Christian man.  He treated my weight loss holistically and often times dealt with emotional issues/concerns that were going on in my life.  I really have alot of respect for him.

My six month appointment is next week.  I'm a couple lbs away from hitting my 100 lb lost mark.  I'm so excited.  I feel great and would like to lose another 30 lbs before this journey ends.  I think it's possible.

Add me to the list.  Surgery is next week.  I was looking for some comments on Dr. Anderson and what you all thought of her.  Please let me know your opinions on her and your opinions of the work she did.  Thanks all!

Topic: Post RNY ??? Dumping vs. Late Dumping???

I had RNY surgery back in 8/2007... long story short I never lost the weight I had hoped to. I'm awaiting word from Cleveland Clinic to their revision program. Meanwhile my insurance company's "Health Coach" referred me out to a dietician . If I do not eat carbohydrates I get EXTREMELY DIZZY... then by eating something the dizziness goes away. The feeling does not come over me until well after an hour of eating ...hence the dietician called this "LATE DUMPING".  I've heard of dumping and it's symptoms...but does anyone know... are there truly two forms of dumping syndrome after RNY?

The dietician working with me is going to have me try a modified diabetic diet to see if I can lose any weight. She also is changing my vitamin regime from 4 optisource and 2 calcium citrate with vitamin D down to 1 Centrum per day.

I'm nervous about this change but my weight keeps creeping up and I'm continually hungry. Could my dizziness attacks be what she referred to as "Late Dumping" only relieved by eating more food?

Your comments are appreciated.
Kathy

Hey everyone, I am new to the boards and am scheduled for surgery next week with Dr. Rita Anderson.  I was wondering what your thoughts on her are and if you had any complications from your surgery.  i believe I have made the right decision, but looking for others who have had their surgery with her.  Please feel free to check out my first blog and add me as a friend.  Wish I would have found this board earlier, lol!

Topic: Is there a surgeon that will accept Ohio's HCAP (Health Care Assistance Program)?
I weigh over 600lbs. I have sleep apnea and degenerative disc disease (among other back problems). I'm unemployed. I don't have insurance. I don't have medicare or medicaid. I am in the process of trying to get on disability or SSI, but I've been through that before and denied.

Anyways, I've got a social worker at Aultman Hospital in Canton who is trying to find me a hospital/surgeon that will take Ohio's HCAP program. What that is is a program for people like me who are basically poor, unemployed, and without any kind of insurance. We've already tried with the Cleveland Clinic, and even though they were happy to have me fill out their ton of paperwork and make me wait for many weeks, I got the call today saying they won't accept HCAP. Why they couldn't tell me up front, I don't know. Apparently, even though the doctors consider it "medically necessary" it is still an elective surgery, so they won't accept it.

It could be that there simply isn't a surgeon that will take HCAP. I don't know. But my social worker is still going to try and help me find a place that will do it. I thought it might be a good idea to research this on my own. Hence my registration here and this post.

If anyone wants more information about HCAP, here's a link to their website.

 Yes, I'm from Columbus, Ohio.

I am wanting the Realize Band. I meet with Dr. Choban mid-December and then will have to work through all of the paperwork, etc before submitting to my insurance.
