I didn't really mind the taste too much. I thought the ready to drink shakes tasted better than the powdered ones... With the vanilla, you can add the SF Toranti syrups to them to get different flavors (they're in the coffee aisle at walmart) so you could have raspberry, caramel, chocolate, hazelnut, etc. I found I did better if I just chugged the whole thing through a straw without stopping (then I didn't taste it and I didn't feel hungry if I kept up with the every 2-3 hours thing). I had to do the 5 shakes and 2 bars a day too. We also had soups to choose from but they were awful!!! And on top of that, I had to do it for 6 WEEKS!!

Opticrap...lol I like that! I'm having the lapband done Feb. 1st if all goes well. I have to have a heart cath. thursday to get clearance for surgery. I hope everything goes ok. It seems like I've had to jump through hoops to have this surgery done. First anti-depressants, then councelling, now a heart cath. Ugh! What a pain!

My husband says he adds instant coffee to the chocolate optifast. He says it tastes way better and that's the only way he liked it. I guess i'm going to have to try that. He says it's like a mochachinno. I highly doubt it but we'll see...lol

I woulda bought it if they'd have let me. My husband had some left over too and it was like pulling teeth to get them to let me use the rest of his. They want you to buy it from the hospital. They have to be making money off of it, I don't care what they say. I'm probably going to have some left over too, this stuff is so yucky and I have to drink 5 shakes a day plus 2 bars. There is no way! Bleck. Which one did you like best? I only got chocolate cuz my hubby said vanilla was horrid.

Topic: Reactive Hypoglycemia Research
Jus****ched a local news story.

The University of Cincinnati is conducting research on reactive hypoglycemia in WLS patients.  I thought of a lot of folks here and especially Melting Mama.

513-558-0201.  The lead researcher's name is Dr. Salahi (pronounced Say-lay-hee).  They want to discover the cause and develop a way to test if pre-surgery folks are susceptible and what preventative care can be taken.

Sounds like a great research study.

X-posted on the main board.

Topic: Left over optifast
I had surgery almost 2 months ago and I still have some optifast sitting in my closet from the pre-op diet. I was just wondering if anyone is interested... I can't imagine just throwing that stuff away (especially since it was so expensive!). I have ready to drink shakes (chocolate), bars, and the powdered shakes (choc, vanilla, strawberry). Guess I ordered a litttlle bit too much...

I went to UT medical center in Toledo. They took awesome care of me - the nurses were amazing. The dietician and insurance coordinators were great too.

Topic: RE: Had Med Mutual now Front Path any difference?
Hey Michele. I have Frontpath also and they have been nothing but great! They paid almost my entire surgery bill and I love that I don't need a referral for a specialist. No complaints so far. The $20 copay is not bad and almost all of my scrips have been cheap as well.

Hey, im day 2 of my optifast diet and i have vanilla i have to down my drinks or i will gag LOL good luck  with it all :)
My husband said vanilla is nasty. He even tried mixing it with diet rootbeer and diet orange pop. I just found my paperwork and it says I have to drink 5 shakes, eat 2 bars, and 1 lean cuisine. YAY! I won't starve to death afterall. I didn't know I could have the lean cuisine since my husband wasn't allowed. But I found out that it's because my BMI is higher than his. Yeah, I chugged that shake so hard I gave myself a brain freeze. I didn't want to even taste it I just wanted it over with lol. Good luck on yours. Are you allowed to eat anything?
