question about breathing?
Ok this may sound weird, sorry for that but the question i have has to do with singing.. I love to sing (not that im good at it) but i inhale air into my stomache and its realy hard for me to inhale into my lungs when i sing, is this going to be a problem because i wont be able to inhale into a big area after wls. I was just curious.. am i being overerly weird??
thank you all
Paula
Paula, As a singer with a degree in music, I can tell you that it is impossible to "inhale" into your stomach. You may use your diaphram (stomach muscle) to help you inhale larger amounts of air into your lungs, and then control the exhale with that same muscle, but never does air enter your stomach. I'm sure your doctor will back me up on this. The only time air gets in your stomach is by accident, and it causes you to burp.
I am 4 mos. post op, and I can tell you that my voice, which had deteriorated in the past few years, has started to improve. I am fairly sure this is from the reduction of fat in my throat area.
Good luck,
Calpernia
Thank you for that information, i was meaning the diaphram but didn't know how to spell it so i said stomache in place because that was the only word i could think of to fit the question and the only area that i knew "grew" with inhaling. My music teacher i think helped with my confusion because he said to put my hand on my stomache and inhale, when it "grows" then your getting air into the right area for singing, so all this time (let me say a looooonnnnggg time) i have associated stomache with diaphram and it being the same area and sometimes same thing.. unfortuneately i am the classical "bathroom/car only singer" and it helps me deal with everyday life, i guess you could say its "one of my happy places" so i was so worried about not being able sing afterwards.
I realy do appreciate you getting back intouch with me on this
Thank you
Paula
