Question for Dr. C

In one of the recent posts a LapBand patient was diagnosed with an Esophageal Dilation. From what I understand, an on-going heartburn/acid reflux can scar and narrow the esophagus. What if your band is pretty tight, but you do not have the heartburn? Should we worry about this? How can you tell if you're getting it? Am I paranoid or have I been surfing too much?

Rita, Most patients who are too tight have reflux, but not all. It's not really a black or white issue, it depends on the patient so it's a hard question to answer. Early on, especially after your first or second fill, you may be just a little too tight at first but as the weight comes off things will loosen up a lot. C
