Hi everyone in Ohio! I'm in Florida and I have a question. Someone told me that somewhere in Ohio if you donate you excess skin to the burn unit then they would do the surgery for free. Has anyone heard of that? I think they said it was at the Moffitt center? Please let me know I'm thinking that it would be worth me coming up there to have my surgery!!! Thanks in advance! Tammie F

Tammie, to be honest I have no idea what to tell you but I am hoping to donate mine to the Shriners Burns Institute here in Cincinnati. I think they might be able to make good use out of it, at least I hope they can. ..Pam

I had heard the same thing, I was told by a doctor that this an Urban Legand", it's simply not true. Although the extra skin may be used for burn victims and other medical needs, they do not pay for the surgery.

I also have never heard of any place in Ohio that would pay for the surgery with donated tissue...and I live right in Cincinnati where Shriners burn institute is located. Before you get your hopes up, you should consider a) the shape your skin is in-I have stretch marks and that skin would not even be useable for grafting and b)new skin can be grown and grafted so easily now that is hardly worth anyones time/expense to harvest it. Good luck! Becky R

Thank you all so much for getting back to me. I guess the best thing is to just stay in my area and see if there is a burn unit here that may be able to use the excess skin. Thanks again, Tammie F
