Well, after waiting over 3 months, I finally had my consult yesterday, and I have no idea what to do. I was approved by the surgeon to have Lap-Band surgery (only option) because I am not a good cadidate for RNY having had cancer a few years back. My insurance requires a 6 month supervised diet, and of course I have wasted the last 3 months of waiting when I could have been on the diet had I known. Do I submit everything without having the diet first, in hopes they may approve me? When I first tried to get a consult I had started back on the diabetic diet, and have lost 8 lbs., but it wasn't an officially supervised diet. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

I did the same as you. waited around. You should go ahead and submit everything. Thats what I did and they told me I needed the supervised diet. Once that was over They would approve me. I went to my doctor once a month. He put me on a diet. I was weighed in once a month around the same time everymonth 6 months straight. and tell them the excercise you do. And get in to see your doctor asap to get this rolling. My insurance company would not except nothing less. and also make sure your insurance covers the lapband. Some insurance companys only cover the rny I so I lost no weight. Have a good day Barb

Hi Karrie, can I ask where you are having your surgery? You mentioned that because you had cancer a few years back tht you cant have RNY. Just wondering who told you that and why? I had breast cancer in 2002 and was planning on having RNY, and have talked to two different doctors who say it will be no problem, even with my tram flap reconstruction surgery that was done. Just wondering if you have some new information that I need to know about.
