Choice in Hospitals

I could feasibly choose to have my WLS at either Barix Clinics or St Vincent Charity Hospital and I just wanted to know if any of you have been to either of them, and if you had a choice which would you pick? I am closer to St Vincent, but that doesn't matter so much to me. ~Sara

I had my surgery at ST. V's. I had no problems and a very good stay. Just my opinion. I can't comment on barix though. If you have any questions about st.v's. let me know

The people at the barix are great. Very nice.. My surgery is Apr 17th so I cannot comment on the hospital, but I have been told it is wonderful, peaceful and restful, unlike a hospital... they are booked up right now because they are down to 1 surgeon at the moment. Hopefully they will get a 2nd one soon! Blessings, pam

Pamela has a good point about Barix being very backed up. For the last two weeks I tried to get an appointment for a consult but couldn't even get one because they were booked through MAY. Luckily I got a call this week, though, and their primary surgeon from Michigan, Dr. Poplawski, is coming to help them out. So fortunately I was able to get an appointment, which is tomorrow. That's the good news. The bad news is that Barix just this week substantially raised their prices.

I have consults scheduled for both, each in April. I have heard good things about both though Barix seems to have SLIGHTLY better reviews here. But, they both looked pretty good. I think that the quality of surgeons are probably both great. I am interested in the other stuff... Also including perhaps tests and requirements pre-op. And, here's a good question. How often will I be going back post-op? I live about 1 1/2 hours from St Vincent and 2 1/2 hours from Barix so its a long drive either way, but the hours add up. ~Sara

I am with Patti....University Hospital has by far a more complete program than St. V's. All the pre-op and post-op support group meeting are attended by the surgeons, nurses, nutritionist, physc. nurse,.....excersise guru....etc. That to me says a whole lot about their belief in what they are doing for us! I think that you can realistical have surgery anywhere....but it is the after care that is so very important to me! Just my 2 cents! Sue 320/130 at goal!

Well, I was wanting to do some place that had a lot of reviews, which I figured would indicate what place has the most experience with WLS. I read some of the reviews for UH and there were some negative ones, a higher percentage than I saw at SV and Barix. Of course I've never been there so I am just trying to make it a numbers game.

Sara, Hi! I just wanted to say thet I pick UH out because I went to a semenar at UH and was very inpressed also St. V wouldnt even let me go to a free semenar for info about the surgary and barix called me but neither took my insurance. St. V charges a fee that UH does not and UH support is great. Pattie
