Hello Dr.C, I had a question about WLS. I am scared to death to have it done, but was wondering if you could give me some statistics to maybe put my mind at ease. Also, how do I get the ball rolling if I do decided to have it done. Also, one more question I live in Geneva, OH and wondering if there is a surgeon close to me that does this surgery. I am not sure if Lad band or gastric bypass is a good choice for me. Any thoughts?

Jessica, I had my surgery at University Hospital in Cleveland. I love their program! They 3 top notch surgeons....and they always come to the support group meetings....both pre and post op! The nurses are also great! If you would like any information on the program there please feel free to email me! Sue 320/130 goal! p.s. I had my surgery with Dr. Jasper on June 1, 2005....I am 9 months out!

Jessica, Those are some pretty broad questions that are difficult to answer without knowing your full medical history. As far as the risk goes, if you see an experienced, qualified surgeon, the risk of surgery may well be less than the risk of not having surgery, especially when talking about the band. I currently do about 80% band/20% bypass, mainly because it is patient-driven, but I think they are both great operations and very powerful tools to help you lose weight. Good luck, Dr. C

Hi Jessica, I know exactly how you feel. I was so scared and really didn't feel at ease until I talked to Dr. Curry. I now have lost 115 lbs and feel so wonderful. It's hard the first year and then you really know how to work with your body. I feel good just about everyday and no pains anymore at all. I fit into every booth at every restaurant. I take baths now and the water is all around me instead of in front of me and I just jump up and don't have to work so hard to get out. I think the best thing is I don't take insulin twice everyday. I am 57 and I only wish I was 30 years younger. I play on the floor with my grandchildren and I dont have to scoot to a chair to hold onto to get up.It is the best decision of my life and I highly reccommend Dr. C even if you have to come all the way to Cincinnati. You and only you have this difficult decision to make. Good luck to you in whatever you decide. I love who I am now for the first time in 35 years. Love, Cindy

Its the best decision that I have ever made. I echo Cindy's comments. I can now play with my niece's 2 little ones all day and go home still full of energy. After living a life of being obese for 51 years, this is all new to me! I had no idea that people really could do all of the things that I find myself doing now! Only you can decide which surgery will work for you. Its such a personal thing. Everybody is nervous and scared about undergoing a surgery. I can't tell you the crazy thoughts that went through my mind prior to my date. Now after losing almost 200 pounds, I only wish that I had done it sooner! I don't think that I could be any happier!!
