Cracking Heels

I have a theory that skinny people may not have cracked feet. My feet are so cracked all the time, especially my heels, and I'm wondering if it is because my body weighs so much and it causes too much pressure on the heels of my feet which makes my skin crack. Any of you have/had this problem and does it get better with weight loss?

do you mean the skin on your feet are cracked? My co-worker got me hooked on "heel balm" by Flexitol. You use it twice a day until your feet are healed then as needed to keep them that way. Some of the 'cracking' could be related to dehydration or diabetes and poor circulation. Melissa

My feet looked so bad before surgery. Now they are doing much better. I think health and weight play big role. They will get better. Best wishes Barb

I am a manicurist and do pedicures everyday, and I do think that weight has a little to do with it, but Barb is right- it's mainly your health and what medications you are on. You would be suprised at what bad things certain medications can do to your body and chemistry. I have some overweight clients that have nicer/smoother looking feet than my lighter clients. Try using a scrub and a pumice stone(found at walmart). Soak your feet for about 20-30 minutes in hot/warm water, use the scrub all over your feet-rinse-then use the pumice stone on your heels and rough areas-rinse then get a thick creme or butter, but don't use anything from bath-n-body or anything that has perfume because it contains alcohol and thats what drys our skin out. Also, try wearing socks and slippers around the house instead of going barefoot, thats when our feet dry out and carpet roughs up our feet. Ever notice that our feet are rougher in the summer? It's because we are barefoot more and wear open toe/heel shoes and sandals, which allows the air to dry out our feet more! Hope this helps! Josie

Mine were too...I went to my friendly loace podiatrist and was treated for a fungal infection. The over the counter products didn't work...it required a prescription called spectazole and I had beautiful feet in 1 week! Stephanie

I got that problem too. I am 52 though. I use lots of lotion and this stuff for skin that cracks. I have the same problem with my fingers when it is a really cold winter. My Mom had it too. I don't think it has anything to do with weight. You may want to pamper them and do regular sloughing and lots of lotion. I wear mens white sports socks after I have loaded my feet with lotion. Good luck
