The Barix sent my whole chart back to my insurance.. it took them 2 weeks to fax it.. so instead of just 1 letter with the revised surgery code the insurance now has to review the whole thing... they have until fri, 3/10. I was so excited in jan when I was approved... the last month + of waiting has been tough.. so I feel like I'm doing something..... does anyone recommend a protein powder I can get for after? Any thing else I should stock up on or get in the house for after? Deoderizer for the bathroom????? I've read to take chapstick to the hospital, any other suggestions? I am ready to go ..like yesterday...... Thanks for any info! Blessings, pam

Pam. I found babywipes helpful for the hospital. I didnt need any deoderizer, Chapstick is a must. I used that walmart alread mixed protien when I got home. I think it was edge. Make sure to have sf puddings, jello, refried beans, cottage chesse, sf hot choclate,Sf Popsicles I put my protien Powder in my hot chocalate. no flavor whey from gnc. My favorite drink is th 20 ounce fruit drinks from gnc. They have 40 grams protein. I wore the hospital gowns. Take your camera and a pillow for your ride home. To push up against your stomach. Take some kind of sf thoat losonger or breath mint. Maybe at home a case of water. Best wishes Hugss barb

Don't forget ear plugs! A hospital is no place to get rest, that's for sure. All those beeping noises got on my nerves when I was trying to sleep. I love Charmin fresh wipes now. I also recommend checking at a thrift store for a shower chair. I used mine for two weeks and it only cost me $2 at goodwill. In the event of difficult reach-around after surgery, either a wooden spoon or tongs wrapped in toilet paper will help extend your reach.

The Barix enviroment is different than any other hospital I've ever been in. The noise and activity you encounter in a regular hospital is not there. All the rooms are private, and it is a very serene setting. You'll be very happy you chose them...one of the different things I experienced was when you say goodbye to your family before surgery. When I've had surgery in the past, I get ready for surgery, had an IV started and catheter, and lay on a gurnee in preop waiting with my husband untill they take me back to surgery. At Barix, you get called up to your room, and say goodbye then, approx. an hour before your surgery is scheduled. Then they take you back to the surgical preop area. I had a hard time saying goodbye, but by the time surgery rolled around, I was nice and calm, thanks to the happy juice, and my blood pressure was back down where it needed to be. It was better than getting all worked up immediately before being put under. (Catheter is installed after going to sleep.)

Well that sounds great! I did get my approval for the rny so now I wait for them to call and set up my preop stuff at the center. Did that take long? I guess surgery then is 1-2 weeks after that. I was told I may need to repeat the pul function there if the intern says so.... I think I will argue that if it happens, The only reason I can see for them to repeat is so they gat paid for one. I had a normal one dec 28th. How is the band working for you? Thanks to everyone for the info, I love this site. You are great.
