I have had nothing but problems since I had my RNY surgery on October 21, 2005. I am going for my 9th dilation on Thursday, and now my surgeon is saying that my stomach is not pushing food through, and he has me on 8 Reglan pills a day, which do not seem to be doing anything. Has anyone else had this problem? How is it resolved? Is Reglan safe to take for an extended preiod of time? I am so tired of not being able to eat anything without getting sick. I am 4 months out, and still mostly on liquids. I do not feel good, my hair is starting to come out, and I am not getting in the protein needed. I am lucky to get in the liquid...well, honestly, most days I have not made it, between being sick and having things stuck in my stomach so nothing can go down. Should I go somewhere for a second opinion? Like where? Is there anyone that can help me get past this? Lois

Lois, That's a tough one, but it sounds like something isn't right. Reglan is a pretty safe and harmless drug, but I doubt it will help. Sometimes you just have to re-operate and take a look to make sure nothing is wrong on the inside. Good luck, Dr. C

Thanks for your reply. Not very encouraging, after all the trouble that I have already had. Would you suggest a second opinion? Sincerly, Lois Warnock

Dr C.: Isn't it pretty dangerous to reoperate at this time? I went for my 9th dilation today, and the opening was closing up again. Just does not seem to want to stay open. I am so scared and confused and worried that I can not think straight....well, that might be because I am not getting the nutrients that my body and mind need!!!! Are there speciality doctors that do this kind of repair work, or would my bariatric clinic surgeon do this? I wonder if my stomach has not been working since the surgery? I would never haven known, since I have been sick from day one. Sincerely, Lois

Sometimes it's more dangerous not to operate, if the problem is only getting worse. I'm not saying that is the answer in your case, but just in general. If a problem is there that needs to be fixed, waiting isn't going to help anything, if that makes sense. Good luck, Dr. C

Your response definitely makes sense, and today my bariatric surgeon is supposed to talk to the GI group, and decide if they will go ahead and operate. I just hope that I hear somehting soon. Thanks for answering my e-mail, and for the good luck. Sincerely, Lois
