I have a neighbor lady who is just my age and is fast approaching around 600 pounds. She recently lost her funding for home health care and housekeeping and can no longer do these things for herself. She has asked me to help her with grocery shopping and laundry. Last night I went to the laundramat for her and I was almost in tears as I folded her clothes and those of her mentally retarded brother she cares for. They were stained and tattered. I felt so badly for her. I noticed that her clothes are a size 6x and he wears size 56 jeans and 3 x mens tops. IF anyone would happen to have access or have decent clothes in any of these sizes I would be so greatful. I want to help this family out in any way I can. I feel so badly for this young lady that she is going to die an early death and wls could save her life. I just dont know how to approach the subject with her, or even if it is my place to do so. I just love and care about her and would love to see her have a better quality of life. She is completely housebound now at 44 years of age. Any ideas how I can help her and her brother, without being a nosy busybody... HELP.. Love and Hugs, Laura

I am sure she knows you had the surgery. You need to just come out and suggest it. If she is on medicare she can get approved right away. If it was my friend I would be suggesting it in a heart beat. Does she have internet acess. If so tell her about this site. Just talk to her. Dont worry about her feelings right now. You are trying to save her life. Sometimes that is what friends are for. I am sure she needs a push. If anyone can get her on her way you can Laura. Go for it. Hugs Barb

Barb, I do Love this lady Patty like a sister and it has been so sad to watch her go from being somewhat mobile a year ago to now being housebound. She has terrible cellulitis on both legs and cant even wear shoes any longer. I am gonna ask God to guide my words when I talk to her and see if I can give her some info about the surgery. I am just so afraid if she doesnt do something that she wont live much longer. Love and hugs, Laura 310/151/120

Rich, I would be happy to pay for the shipping. Get them together and let me know how much it will be.. Leonard will appreciate it so much.. I am trying to contact a local church to help me buy them socks and undergarments. I have also gotten a group of church ladies together and we are gonna throw a house cleaning party and a shower of some sort for them. These folks have nothing. I want to help any way I can. I appreciate any help you can give me. My Ex brother in Law lives in West Layfayette and if they can get there, I can get my ex to pick them up for me.. Thank God for you angels. Laura

Rich, I think we can use the 54's.. If you are still willing to help us out. Leonard has lost a little weight and he has baggy drawers on right now. So the 54's should work out just right. Thank you so much for your help.!!! Hugs, Miss Laura

I am writing to Oprah, And all of the catalog companies that sell supersize garments. Between this and the donations of clothing that people are sending me we should make her one very happy lady. I still have to concentrate on getting some help for her brother Leonard. I am so touched by the outpouring of Love and support that people have given. A local church is sending a group of ladies to do a thorough spring house cleaning , mopping, scrubbing, changing sheets etc. I have contacted a local beautician and she has donated her time to come and keep Patty busy while we are cleaning by giving her a day of beauty and pampering. A new hair cut and manicure. Also they have no cable TV and in our area if you dont have cable you have no tv reception at all. Her sister bought her a VCR DVD player for Christmas and it is still sitting in the box. My daughter is an electronic whiz so she is going to hook it up for her, and I am going to make weekly trips to the library to pick movies up for her. I am hoping these positive changes will get her motivated to take some steps on her OWN to improve her life. The church ladies have also volunteered to make healthy meals and freeze them and the food pantry will provide fresh produce 2 times a month. I cant tell you how good this makes me feel to be able to help Patty out. It made me so sad to see those torn and stained clothes and I thought no one deserves at any weight to have to wear clothing like that. I want to thank all of you for offering your used clothing to our cause. I feel like we are really going to do some good here. I am taking a chance on writing to Oprah and see if she can help us out too. You just never know stranger things have happened. THank you all again for the Love and support. Hugs , Laura
