Questions about the losing side
Hey everyone,
I hope everone is having a nice weekend!
I was wondering if someone would tell me what it's like after surgery. I haven't seen a dietian yet and so I was wondering if you would tell me what it's like after surgery (i.e, pain, mobility, food). What and for how long do you eat certain foods. What can't you eat & drink anymore. Are you in alot of pain and for how long. I'm hoping to have surgery and I was just really wondering about the other side. Thanks to anyone that can help me out!
Enjoy what's left of the weekend!

My surgery was done laproscopically. My pain from the surgery lasted about 1 week. I had 2 c sections so this was a piece of cake compared to those. The program I followed as when I went home I did stage 1 diet. Stage one consisted of broths, jello, eggs, popcicles, pudding, cottage cheese, oatmeal, cream of wheat, protein drinks, Koolaid, bascially soft foods.
Stage 2 you bring in more foods that are not hard for your stomach to digest and then stage 3 you can start bringing in frozen veggies and canned fruits, more types of meat. For me I could only do chicken, then I could eat turkey, beef, ham. I still cannot tolerate some meats, it just depends on how they are cooked.
Stage 4 you can eat more varieties of food.
I am happy I had the surgery. I would have done it years ago if I knew I could have. I have a great support group at OSU.
I wish you all the best on your journey. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask .. we all are here to help you.
Good Luck and God Bless,

Mine was done Lap and I had very little pain after the surgery. The biggest pain was having that tube for drainage! YUK! It was very difficult for the first few weeks to get anything to stay down for me, but then everyone is different. I was able to walk short distances but gradually I got my strength back and was able to do more. Your belly will let you know what you can tolerate! I never touch soda anymore. I dearly miss it! I've lost almost 200 pounds in 15 months and I feel like a new person. Your dietician will tell you what food plan to follow. Listen to him/her. Do lots of research on this surgery and believe what people tell you when they say you won't want to eat! You'll probably have times when you have to force yourself to take a few bites or sips of food. Sugarfree popsickles were my best friend for months! Just remember that everyone is different and your case will probably be unique to you. Hang in there! It does get easier as time goes along!
Happy Happy ME!
I had an open DS and even though the procedure was so drastic, I had very little pain and discomfort in the hospital and at home. The meds were perfect. Two days home, and I was only taking pain meds at bedtime.
On the food factor, I did soft foods before I left the hospital and for two days at home. I then started to experiment with some solids and did very well. I can say that my taste buds got a mind of thier own. My tastes totally changed.
Overall, recovery has been a breeze!!
