Surgery next week - Dayton
Hello everyone, My name is Jason and I thought it about time to look for some cyber support. After several months of planning and tests I was approved for surgery, but I was denied surgery from my insurance company Anthem. Apparently last year they added it as an exclusion in a policy renewal....very sneeky.. I was very upset, but decided I would move forward and took out a loan. Next Friday is "D-Day" for a Lap Roux-en-Y. I am plaining on sending out an email to my co-workers to let them know of my absence and support today.... any pointers or encoragement would be great as I am getting "butterflys in my stomach"
I wish you the best of luck with your upcoming journey... It is AWESOME!! You wont regret it... The first 3 to 4 months will be rough... for me the surgery was a walk in the park... The hard part was learning what I could and couldn't eat... I will be a year out in March and I am SO glad I did this... I have lost 117 lbs and feel wonderful... Life has a new meaning to me now... If you have any questions or need anything please feel free to contact me... Keep your head up and keep reaching for the stars...
Best wishes on your surgery date. You are going to be one good looking guy. I am down 70 pounds in 15 weeks. I have energy like a 20 year old. Your going to do wonderful. JUst remember to walk asap that is what is going to heal you the fastest. It hurts but it is a goood hurt. Its going to get you better. ALSO WATER AND PROTEIN. ( vERY iMPORTANT. tHE HARDEST FOR me was the first 6 weeks. I had open surgery. I was really sore from that. also the diet was terrible. I had head hunger and depression because of the life changes. Very common the first month. Once you get on solid food. everything comes together. that happens in the 6th week for me. Your going to do fine. This surgery has come along way. Most of the kinks are out. And your going to be happy you did this. You have a beautiful son

Good luck Jason, my surgery was the best money I ever spent!! I was self pay, a flat out exclusion on my insurance but I figured it was the same as buying a car, only when it was paid off I would still be in good shape
.
I feel like I'm 20 years old, dress like it and act like it pretty much!! It was the best decision hands down I've ever made. The emotional part was the biggest adjustment for me. No one can prepare you for the changes you'll go thru emotionally. You'll find out who you really are. I had someone ask me yesterday if I was glad I did it and without hesitation I answered YES!!! I had open and had healing problems with my incision, other than that I've been complication free and LOVING LIFE!!!! It gets better everyday!!

glad to hear, I will be at Grandview in Dayton. I originally saw Bruce and told me to talk to Siddiqui about a Lapband when I went in they messed up and I saw Clarey (who has never done a Lap before and did not really help me go one way or another. I ended up talking with Patty and Jean who told me I should just go with a Lap RNY for less maintenance and compliance. Which puts me with Siddiqui which I never got to talk to except for 30 second before my EGD... Since I was paying for it myself I could not see having to pay that again in 15 years when the band is supposed to wear out. To be honest I have not been too impressed with their organizational skills. Then I had to get a clearance form filled out by my primary care Dr and to find out when they requested my medical records they sent the originals, and my Dr's office thought I had transferred so after a week wiaintg for the appointment and an hour in the waiting room at my normal Dr's office, I find out they won't sign the paperwork because they don't have my medical records... So I am dealing with this the last week before my surgery. sigh.....
Your right they do need to get some things together. But Besides that you are getting very good surgeons. I was at grandveiw. I had very good care. The rooms are very nice. If you have a nurse named Lisa. Tell her Barb said hi !!!!. I did have a night nurse from hell her name was Jan. She was a night mare. Besides that the interns are very nice and very caring. And do not take any crap from anyone at the hospital if you need them you push that button as many times as you have to. Also you will need to take baby wipes and chap stick. The baby wipes for your first time going to the bathroom. They helped me. The nurses are not to good at keeping you clean. I had to do my own baby wipes really came in handy. They gave me a numbing ball they put the tube in my stomach, It really helped with pain. The moraphine made me feel like a true drug addict tripping on acid in the 60s. Just get all the rest you can and make sure you walk as much as you can. Your Doctor is really a eduacated doctor. You are going to be fine. I Know you are going to be happy with the lap rny. I had open surgery. Your Doctor is the best on Lap. Your going to be fine. I thought the same thing. But I am so grateful I had such skilled surgeons. Let us know how your doing when you get home.
Your going to do great
The new bariatric rooms at Grandveiw are Beautiful

Congratulations on your surgery date and best of luck to you. I had open RNY the day after Thanksgiving with Dr. Bruce. I have seen Dr. Siddiqui in the office and he seemed very nice. A good friend of mine had the Lap RNY last week with him and she is doing fantastic. I received great care at Grandview and would go there again without a second thought. It's unfortunate that Anthem denied you. I have them as well and had no problems with approval. The butterflys are normal. I remember being excited and nervous all at the same time! I am 8 weeks out and down 41 pounds. Just think how fantastic it will be when you are finally on the losing side.
Again, best of luck to you!
