United healthcare Choice Plus exclusion

I have United Healthcare Choice Plus. There is a written exclusion in the policy, but I have an appointment with a surgeon at the Barix Clinic in Ohio on Feb. 3rd. If you have this insurance, should I bother going? Any one have any experience with this company and was able to have the surgery even with the exclusion?

I have UHC as well. They denied everything that came in regarding morbid obesity. Luckily my husbands insurance covered my surgery he has Cigna. It all depends on the company you work for if they have the exclusion or not. Mine did. I would still go for your consultation as it is informative and also it is good to hear more than one persons opinion of the surgery. I went to Barix first here in Columbus, but I ended up at OSU. Don't bother going. An exclusion with UHC is a flat out exclusion. If you can find an employer that offers UHC with no exclusion , then UHC is one of the best. If you have any other options with insurance: open enrollment, spouse's plan, other employment, I would take that road first. The reason I say this is because you may eventually end up with a different insurance that covers weight loss surgery, but Barix may be out-of-network for them. I agree with Darlene W. Exclusion are extremely difficult and sometimes impossible to over turn especially at the surgeon level. A more direct approach with you employer is required. You have to see if they can add the benefit and if so, you and your fellow employees have to convince them to do so. Other options are legal representation but that can also be expensive. hi tamara, I have UHC with an exclusion and have been denied 3 times, this with the help of an attorney. I'd like to say you'd have no problem, but this has been very tough so far.

Your employer chose this exclusion, so your best bet is to bark up their tree. Barix is very pushy, so once you go, they won't leave you alone (happened to a friend of mine). I agree that if you have it without an exclusion, it's a piece of cake. I was approved in 10 days.

I have UHC and it covered it. It all depends on the policy and exclusions.
