Looking for New Job - Columbus Ohio

Anyone near Columbus work for or know of a company that has insurance that covers WLS? I work now but am looking at picking up a second job so I can get my surgery covered. I scheduled an appointment for today with Dr. Curry, but had to cancel because I just dont have the money to self pay. My UHC insurance is not coming through either...3 denials and I've already paid out for Gary Viscio to help. No progress. I am getting desperate. No, I'm long past desperate.

If you can handle a strict company, I used to be a supervisor at Safelite Auto Glass it's a call center on Schrock Rd they also have another location off Sawmill. They are open 24/7 and the pay isn't bad. The insurance is through Cigna and they paid for my surgery. They do drug test. For benefits you have to work over 31 hours and be full time. Did UHC give you a reason why they denied it? I ask becasue I know of two people who work with my husband ( also has UHC) and both had the surgery without any hold ups from insurance. Anyway, I hope it works out for you! Good Luck!!

I've heard that most exclusions are put in by the company, not the insurance, and you can sometimes convince HR to change riders on their policy. Depending on your level of impairment, if you weren't working, you would probably qualify for Social Security/Medicaid. Ohio Medicaid paid for my surgery. If you could make it on one paycheck for a while, and if you could give up your job/career for the time being, it might be the way to go. I was initially denied disability, but hired a lawyer and had my denial reversed almost instantly. I'm pretty sure it wasn't the lawyer, but rather the very detailed function report I submitted for the appeal. Medicaid also covers some plastics if you have extra skin that impairs movement and is a source of frequent infections. I know this isn't ideal, but it might be a way to go. It took me five months to get on disability (including the appeal). If your surgeon takes Medicaid (not all do -- I went to the WISH Center), they have to submit a request for you to have the surgery. I got approved with lightening speed (my original BMI was 87, so that might have a thing or two to do with it). It can take up to six months. It took me about six weeks to get approval. You have a lot more medical problems than I did to start with. I just have apnea, joint pain, chronic sciatica, depression and carpal tunnel. You might be able to get Social Security Disability without having to appeal. They usually give you a cash allotment each month in addition to the medical benefits. Some of this depends on your household income, but it might be worth checking out. Good luck! I hope you're able to find a solution that helps you to regain good health.

I have UHC too. It was excluded as well. It depends on the company you work for and what they decide the insurance will cover. I am just thankful my husbands insurance covered it. Julie

I work for Time Warner Cable in Col, Oh and UHC cover all but $100.00. There has been atleast 4 of us here who has had the surgery an I know of 3 more that has been approved by UHC. You can apply online @ www.timewarnercable.com to apply.

Holy cow, Tess! Do you get free cable too?? All but $100?? That loud thunp was me passing out on the floor. Wow, I am looking for a wls friendly employer in Columbus as well. Hpw long do you have to work there to get benefits? Only full-timers? Thanks, Darlene
