Protein Freak!
Hi All - I had my surgery 4/18/05. I have lost 145lbs. Ideally I could loose another 50 lbs according to the BMI charts. One thing that I have noticed lately is that during the day, I am starting to feel the need to eat literally every 2 hours. If I don't eat then I have a major decline in energy. So within the last few weeks I've gone from having a protein drink in the morning, lunch and then a protein bar in the afternoon, dinner and then some protein pudding at night, to protein drink in the morning, then later a protein bar 2 hours later, lunch, then 2 snacks of one protein bar in the afternoon and then dinner and then maybe even a protein bar at night and the protein pudding. My weight loss and especially inches lost are really picking up lately. But I almost feel guilty eating this much. Has anybody else noticed this, or does this mean my metabolism is actually picking up? I've been doing lots of exercising, sometimes several times a day. But I've been pretty good from the get go of trying to do something almost every day. What sort of scares me is that if I wait too long to eat, I seriously get very lethargic. To the point that I have to lay down. I am going to see my pcp on Monday and I'll ask him about all this, but I'd love to hear from others who may have gone through the same thing. Also, I'm very good about taking all my vitamins and supplements. I saw my surgeon a few weeks ago and at that time my hunger was just starting to pick up and she said it was ok because I was making good food choices. But it seems more extreme to me which is what has me concerned. It's gotten to the point where if I have back to back meetings at work, I am having to carry a bag of food around with me so that I can keep myself fueled up.
hey congratulations on the fantastic weight loss! You had your surgery on my b-day! More protein is always a good thing, at least your grazing on good things. I noticed when I eat more protein, get all my water in and exercise the weight loss picks up also. Enjoy it while it lasts, now at just over a year out, I am fighting to lose every lb here.
Have you had your labs done lately? Are you taking b-12? [sublingual] helps with energy levels. Exercise really helps in the energy dept also, get's the endorphins flowing.
Happy Holidays!

I too notice that when I especially active and losing weight fast that I am hungrier than when I am being a couch spud. I think our bodies tell us when we need some extra fuel to keep it running smoothly. And I for one dont fight those feelings of needing a power nap. I dont suggest a long 2 hour siesta but 45 mins can do wonders and give you your second wind. I think it all comes down to being aware of what your body is asking for, and giving it what it needs.
Congrats on the great weight loss.. And what a great day to have had your surgery. It was my birthday.. And now its your Re Birthday.
Keep up the great work and dont feel guilty for the extra food your body is begging you for. As long as you arent eating unhealthy choices and you are losing is all that matters.
Loving Hugs
