Dr Brian Lane???
Hi Diane, I went to Yipsilanti last year and Dr. Lane did the surgery. He was great. He is a very up front and no fooling around kind of doctor. I really liked that about him. He is full of information. I had the lap RNY and I had no complications. I was back to work in 2 weeks. To date I have lost 145 pounds. I have not been to the new offices in Wood County. But as a surgeon you can not find a better one. Best of luck with journey. It was the best thing I have ever done for myself.

Hi Debbie! Thanks so much for the info. I think Dr. Lane is wonderful. Congratulations to you....you look fabulous. I am very confident in Dr. Lane, just a bit concerned that I can't find anybody on OH who has been to Wood County Hospital. I heard through the grapevine (I work at a hospital) that so far he has only been doing "general surgery" there. May be a paperwork/licensure issue. Thanks again.
Diane, I go to a support group where a lady named Vickie had surgery just last month with Dr. Lane at Wood County. I missed the last meeting, but was told Vickie was there and her surgery went great. They are just getting started at Wood County, but I think they are up and running now. Please let me know how your journey is going. Good luck, Deb
Thanks again Deb! I know Dr. Lane has been busy with seminars since July. Nice to know he has started procedures. With his experience, I'd have no problem being one of his first at WC. Just wondering how the "whole experience" was. I'll keep you posted. Still on pins and needles waiting for approval. My case has been sitting in Medical Review.
Diane ~ just wanted to pop in with a little info I gleaned at our WLS workshop back in May...the financier was talking to us about insurance companies and such, and I'm pretty sure I remember her saying Med Mutual was one of the better companies to get an approval. Now, I know that there may be more than one "Med Mutual" but I hope yours is the one. How long have you been waiting now?
Hi Laura=WOW is that good to hear. Dr. Lane's office submitted about 3 weeks ago. I've been in "medical review" for about 2 weeks. Last time I tried for surgery (3 years ago) I got my denial in about a week. First appeal took about 3 weeks for denial and the second appeal took just over a month-another denial. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I've been costing them a lot of money lately...and it's not getting any better. Thanks again for the info! Diane
I was approved by medical mutual. What happened with me. They sent m,e a letter saying I did not meet all the criterias. and to send them more imformation if I had it. So I had to go on the 6 month supervised diet and send them aLL MY records and proof of my bmi for 5 years and proof of my medical conditions... I had a real rude lady to deal with, I tore her a new a--. I hope you sent them all the info the first time. But as Laura said all companys are different.

Glad to hear that they approved you though! I sent everything...learned from last time. They only thing I am concerned about is the six month supervised diet. I had that, but well over a year ago. I looked at my policy online on MedMutual's website and there is nothing about that. I have, however, heard soooo many people say it is a requirement now. We'll see. I really do believe that they look for reasons to deny. Afterall, they are a for profit business. I plan to hang in there though. If I have to do another supervised diet, I can deal with that. Should be a few pounds lighter for surgery then! Thanks so much for the info
I wasted three months. Thinking I could get away without the 6 month diet. My doctor wrote letters telling them I had been on a 12 month diet. That didnt work. They wanted a month by month weigh in for 6 months straight. not missing one month. Do you have a policy book. What I woiuld do is make a appt with your pcp and get started ano a diet and tell him you want this surgery and might need a 6 month supervised diet and want to start now. That way while you are waiting if you need that you will have one month in and tell him every visit that your walking or excercising.. I just went to my pcp for 6 months for weigh in. I actallly never lost any weight I gained 5 pounds. The insurance company is looking for proof that you went every month.
Beleive me you would be glad you did it if they require it. The online website doesnt say alot. Do you have any riders in your insurance or any poilicys at home to look at. Then if you have meet all the requirements they cant deny you.
