question for dr curry
Hi. I am having alot of problems with vomitting and would like some advice. I will be 3 months post op tomorrow and have basically been having trouble with vomitting for about 2 months. At first it was just once a day at dinner time. No rhyme or reason for what caused it, it just happened. It then progressed to 2-3 times a day. It wasn't particularly painful but I had relief after wards. I called the doctor several times and finally he ordered an upper GI with gastrographin. That was all normal and he told me there was nothing wrong to just wait it out. I seemed to have gotten better for about a week or so and now the vomitting is back worse then ever. It is now very painful until i vomit. I know I am not eating too much or too fast. Today for lunch I had just a few bites of broth from some soup and about a tsp. of chicken salad. for breakfast i had a 1/4 of a weigh****chers bagel. i have kept nothing or maybe very little down today. i have an appointment on Thursday but called the doctors office because of the pain and amount that i have been vomitting. They basically told me that they don't see patients until Thursday so i would have to wait. Does this sound alright to you? I feel as if i am getting blown off. The reply i got was, it got better after the UGI which is weird. i don't know what to tell you. I'll leave a message for the doctor though. Any suggestions? I am a nurse and am just a bit concerned with what all the vimitting is doing to my electrolytes as well as getting little to no nutrition and also dehydration. I am a bit frustrated as you can tell. Thanks for listening.
Sincerely,
Josette
Josette,
I am sorry that you are having so many problems. None of this sounds right to me and it sounds like you need to find a way around the front desk and get to talk directly to your Dr. Your health is at risk here and your Surgeon should be concerned. If he is not, I dont know if you could find a new Dr to take over your care. But I wouldnt let them belittle your health issues. The best of luck to you and keep us informed of how things are going.
Dont give up.. Keep Squeeking
Hugs
Laura
Josette,
This is a tough one to diagnose over the net...it could be a functional problem, which just means that everything is right anatomically and will get better with time. It could be a stricture, I've seen normal upper GI's and then found a stricture when I scoped. It could be an internal hernia. I agree you need to see your doctor, whether you need to go now or Thursday is hard for me to interpret from a distance.
Good luck,
Dr. C
