Hello everyone. Well it has been 4 weeks and a few days since surgery. I am doing pretty good but having a few issues. I am terribly constipated and I have no idea what to do to make it better. Any suggestions?? I am also on pureed and stuck in a rut. I am finding it hard to eat due to nothing sounding good to eat. I MUST get my protein of course but I dont know what else to eat and I am bored with food. I never thought I would say that but I am. I hope to find some ideas for meals. Thanks everyone for the support I got before my surgery. I am down 35 pounds now but feeling weak at times. Bobbi

I was constpated terribly. My pharmisist told me to take dulcolax suppositories and they helped so much. It only takes about an hour or so.Also the one thing that got me through the pureed was my sister in law made a big pot of veggie soup and pureed it. Then she pit it in ice cube trays. I would take one or two frozen and microwave it and put it on mashed potatoes. It was wonderful and I ate it all the time. It all gets better I promise. You are doing great and enjoy the loss. I hope this helps. My spelling stinks and I am sooooo tired. If you make the soup, leave out the corn and peas. Good luck, Love Cindy

Hi Bobbi. I understand your situation!!! I am 3 months and 2 days out and STILL have the constipation issue. I have one BM a week and that is only when I take something. My surgoen had me on colace right after surgery. Then colace and milk of magnesia. Then they moved me to peri-colace. They wanted me to take it daily for up to 3 months. I was scared I would get addicted to it so I only took it once a week to make me go. Recently I started getting worse and started having very, very, very painful BM's and actually bled!! I talked to my surgeon this week and am now taking several chewable fiber pills a day, extra water (water is a big one!), and taking 2 peri-colace in the morning and 2 in the evening. I started this new regimen a couple days ago and had a normal BM today!!! YAHOOO!!! I know it is too much information but I am glad to somewhat feel normal again. I still worry that I will never be able to go on my own again. I am trying to really increase my daily fiber and water. Refried beans are high in protein and fiber. I am trying to eat them twice a day and cut back on the cheese I had been eating so much of. Feel free to e-mail with any questions! Good luck! Shellie

I had a BIG problem with constipation. I cured it by doing these things: 1. decreasing my dairy intake 2. Eating more beans 3. More water 4. 1 glass of unsweetened prune juice every night Now I am regular and am glad to say that I have no problems at all. Good Luck!

Bobbi My doc gave us a grocery list of things to have on hand after surg. Two of those things were for constifpation . Hmmmm suppose this is common? lol I now take fiber chews they are like a big sweet tart just chew em up and swallow not bad at all. I also on occassion eat baby food prunes these help if im in a bad way. The fiber usually keeps me regular now but in the beginning i did prunes a few times a week. Im six weeks out and still havent found much that satisfies my tastebuds but i eat anyway to get that protein in. I am enjoying canadian bacon really low fat and tasty. I had never bought this in my life before this surgery and now its probably my favorite thing. Tammy
