? for Dr. C please
Hi Dr. C!
Three questions please...if you had to remove a port to allow an infection to heal (see my profile if you need more details) would you do an EGD to check for erosion b4 or during the surgery? and would you allow the existing fill to stay in as long as patient wasn't too tight already? last but not least do you normally require a manometry? b4 doing band surgery? Someone brought that to my attn today, and I had never heard of that being done pre-op just to check stomach pressure to see if a band could/would be tolerated.
Thanks for your help!

I probably wouldn't do an EGD to check for an erosion unless there were symptoms or unless the port got infected a long time after surgery just out of the blue.
I do not require manometry on patients pre-op if they have no swallowing problems.
I probably wouldn't allow an existing fill to stay in, assuming you are not having another port put in until your infection clears, you wouldn't be able to access the tubing and do an unfill should the need arise.
Hope this helps!
