How much exercise?
OK here it is. I have never been the one to exercise. I love the gym my husband goes to but with 7 kids plus all my daycare kids I haven't had the time to go. I have been using my gazelle for 15-20 minutes a day and today I started walking. I was able to do a mile in 20 minutes. So now I am doing the gazelle and walking everyday. Is that enough or should I be doing more?

Hi Barb, this is the gazelle: http://www.homefitnessclub.com/jump.jsp?itemID=7745&itemType=PRODUCT&RS=1&keyword=gazelle.
Agree'd walking is great, but other toning exercises really need to be added over time.

Barb,
I started walking about 10 min a day after my JP was removed. Then I started doing the gazelle (the Tony Little sky thing...he has an infomercial every week.... looks like he is running on a swing like thing) after my surgeon released me at six weeks. I had a hernia repair at the same time I had my RNY. And then I just added the mile walk this morning.

Yeah that is why I am only getting about 20 min out of it. When I first started I was only able to do about 5 min before my thighs started burning. I swear I could smell smoke.
And yes the kids are a handful but it is the laundry, dishes, and vacuuming that wear me out. LOL My husband was laughing at me and told me that we needed to buy stock in the laundry soap we use cuz I am washing about 7 loads a day. And if I miss a day it takes me 2 just to catch back up.
How are you doing Barb?
Rocquetta

My 2 grandkids and daughter live with us. while she goes to college. I know what you mean about laundry but I dont have 7 kids at home but 2 kids is alot. I stopped doing their clothes. I leave that to my daughter. I was tired of folding them it was a never ending job. I am doing okay. I have depression but I am dealing with it . I am glad your doing great also.
I have such head hunger it is depressing me.

I still fight with that head hunger thing. Yesterday was terrible for me. I was to the point that I was actually crying because I knew that if I ate what I wanted to I would be sooooo sick. Then I was biting everyones head off. I finally had to drink my protein drink to get all my protein in then went to bed and cried myself to sleep. I feel better today but still have that nagging, I WANT A PEPSI AND A SNICKERS. I knew this was one of the things that we would go through but I never imagined that it would be this bad.

It is bad my way as well. I had to get on lexapro it helps with this problem and other problems with worring and anxiety. I did not want to get on these depression pills. But I was laying in bed for 3 hours not wanting to get out of bed. This ha**** me like a ton of bricks. I thought the surgery would rid me of this. But To my surprise it hasnt. I am dealing with it the best I can. I do not want to be big. I am a bad emotional eater. I have to learn my new life. For anyone who says this is a easy way out. I want to smack the dog ___ out of them. This is one of the hardest things I have ever had to do in my life besides raise my kids alone for 16years.

I hope you feel better . I think your doing great.......

For now it's plenty enough, but you'll want to also do some weight training, not to bulk up, but to tone the other area's of your body. Good for you, I'm just hitting a mile on the treadmill @17 minutes on decline of 1.0 @2.8 miles an hour. But this is great for me.. I was in a wheelchair still until late January of last year.
Try to start adding some other exercises for toning, hun.
Crunches are good, get on the floor with the kids.. work them abs, proper technique also, don't pull your neck, lift up from the shoulders, pulling in with your ab area. Lay on the floor again grab some veggie can's, lift all around with your arms. Well come to the next OH chapter meeting and I'll get on the floor at Colleens! I will!
I have some clothes here also if you want them. I pulled out a few outfits I thought you could use this winter already, but haven't seen you. I'm getting ready to take them to the women's shelter, but want to offer them to you 1st.
