home from the hospital

Well, I came home today(Friday) at 2:30. I had to stay 4 days due to excessive nausea. I am in a ton of pain!!!! Not sure if this is normal. I have had several BM today and I'm very nausea. I'm trying to get my liquids in but I can't seem to get my proteins in. Is this normal? Thanks Josie

Josie, I am happy you are home but concerned your pain isnt being controlled. Are you taking your meds on time and keeping them down? If you are having the nausea tomorrow call Dr Mikami and I am sure he would phone you in some phenegren, and you might need a pain medication change. I went through several before they found one that worked for me. Dont worry too much about getting a huge amount of proteins in.. Its normal to not at this stage. I had the same problem with the BM's and then they switched me to another pain med that caused me to get severely constipated. You just went through major surgery and your gut is in turmoil. Just try and relax and get as much rest as you can in these first few days home. There will be time to walk and worry about the protein later. Just keep yourself hydrated and do your best with the protein. And please dont hesitate to call Dr M.. He is a sweetheart about taking your concerns seriously and knows that this is part of the surgery taking care of you afterwards. Big Hugs Josie, Laura

I used Dr David Bruce. He is with Allision Carey.. They have a great staff. Hospital Needs some improvement.. All the nurses was great except one nighttime nurse. She was the nurse from hell. I dont think she will be with Bariatrics anymore.... I least I hope not... The rooms are great... Dr Bruces interns are in there every morning one after another. They are just great friendly caring... I cant say enough about them.... They are great you will be in safe hands. Take Care Ann

Ann.. My surgeon is Allison Clarey. I went to the support group tonite and was speaking with someone who had surgery just 5 weeks ago and she too mentioned a nite nurse from hades...well, I sure hope she is gone by now. If she gets near me I am going to tell her to back off or else...teehee...I have little patience and won't be having anyone stay with me at nite so I sure hope she isn't my nurse. Jenn

She never answered my nurses button. I waited 3 hours. My lungs was getting conjested my incision was leaking. I was getting sick. I was as sick as a dog and wanted ice water. ( I was scared to death) I cryed the next day. I rang that nurses button she would never come. I got angry and sent a respitary nurse to get her. Then she finally called the doctor and they ordered blood test. She was rude cold and sneaky. Then my potassum was high so she made me drink these three drinks. I couldnt drink them fast. Guess what she did. Threw them into a big cub of apple juice and tried to make me drink it. I told her. My stomach cant take that much. She keep saying drink it drink it. I finally looked at her and told her no. I wasnt going to drink it like that. She was pissed off. I heard patients crying all night. It was so bad. She has a lazy eye and is in her late 50s. That will give you a hint. To watch out. I did tell on her. I hope they took her out of baratrics. I had to get up alone and unplug my machines by myself to get to the bathroom. that put strian on my incision. It was one of the scarist nights of my life. I was afraid to sleep. I knew she was walking around. I didnt know what she would do next. Take Care barb

Barb.. You weren't kidding were you? I will watch out for her and keep myself on guard for her antics. That really is too bad someone has to be so horrible...do you at all remember her name? If not I will look out for a lazy eyed nurse who is actually lazy!!! Thank you for the fair warning!!! Jenn

Hey Josie.... Welcome to the losing side! Sorry to hear that you are not feeling that well though. I agree with Laura. Call Dr. Mikami's office. You will most likely talk to Janice. She is wonderful. They do not want you to feel miserable. They will do whatever they can to make you feel better. They had to put me on a medicine to help me digest foods better, and it did help. Get you some Unjury protein powder.. it is unflavored. You can put it in your foods to get your extra protein you need. Like I would put it in my soups or cottage cheese, puddings. I know this is hard for you right now. But try to at least keep the water intake going. You do not want to get dehydrated, because if you do.. you might end up back at OSU. Josie, I am so glad your home. We was all worried about you... I know how you feel. It is pretty rotton.. I found the more I walked the better it got. It hurt to walk but I forced myself. I walk around the back yard the first week. I statrted with one lap and made it to three/ I really does help you get better faster. Rest is also good as well. Mainly focus on your liquid. I didnt get my protein in until week three. I am doing well with it. You also need to go to OCT support board on this web site. You will find people right at your stage. I found that to be great help.. I am so glad your on the losing side. I know my surgery was so hard. It was my worse I ever had... I am doing great down 30 pounds in three weeks...
