The symptoms of a stricture ARE throwing up! Doesn't mean you have a stricture just because you are, but it's worth at least investigating. Dr. C The Deaconess Surgical Weight Loss Center Cincinnati, Ohio (513) 559-2545

If you have a stricture, will food always cause you to be sick? For me it is not every time i eat that I get sick. It is at least once a day and is now becoming more frequent. I am getting very tired of it. I called the doctor again on friday and he doesn't want to do anything yet. If this is what my life is going to be like...i'm a bit scared. It is no fun throwing up like I am!! I appreciate your reply! josette I am Karen's friend. She wrote the original question about strictures for me. In case you were wondering who i was!! : )

Just because you have a stricture does not mean that everything you eat will come up. If liquids always stay down and food with more substance comes up, this can be a sign although certainly not always. The tough thing is distinguishing whether you are having "normal" post op vomiting or if it goes beyond that. Karen, When I got severly dehydrated I was throwing up. I was in the hospital for 4 days due to low potassium and dehydration. They did a test for the stricture and I did not have one. Please check with your surgeon.... They will want to see you and check you out. Hugs Julie

Nausea and progressive vomiting after meals. Beginning first with solids and progressing to soft food then liquids become difficult as well. Most persons after surgery will have difficulty making the transition from soft to regular food whenever your surgeon schedules you for the change. Also becoming adjusted to your diet in the first few weeks to months can manifest as nausea and vomiting. If dietary modification does not improve this then taking a look into it is warranted.
