Walk from Obesity

I participated in the Walk from Obesity in Cleveland two days ago. At first, my sister, my nephew and my best friend were all going to be with me and support me. Then my mom decided she wanted to be with us. I welcomed the idea of having my family walking with me - a fun family thing to do! Cool! Then, my best friend got a super-nasty cold, so she wasn't able to go. Then, my sister decided Friday night she's too tired to do the walk. Then, my mom remembered she had an 80th birthday party for her friend. So, I found myself as alone as I normally am....and I remembered, How cool, there's going to be a woman representing ObesityHelp there! I looked for her and looked for her, and kept my ears open for her name and she wasn't there. I felt so all alone that day. I drove 49 miles to the walk up in Cleveland, and was entirely too tired to drive an hour, but I did it, and I felt completely let-down by everyone (except my best friend who's sick). ObesityHelp is one of the dearest things in my life - thanks for letting me get this off my chest. Julie in Akron / Canton

Julie, I wish I had met up with you there. I was there by myself, too. I drove from Detroit (I was actually there for a wedding that day). I, too, was disappointed that there was no rep from Obesity Help. I was also sorry that the routes were not as planned. It was my first walk so I really didn't know what to expect. The reps were really nice and I did get some great info to take back to out support moderator, but I would have liked to see more patient oriented products and info as well. I was suprised with the low turnout, do you know what the head-count was? I heard that our walk in Traverse City, MI only had around 50 walkers. Come on everyone........we should be out there in droves, showing our support for a cause that has saved/changed our lives!! Kathie in MI

Hello Julie! It's your neighbor, Lori. I feel so bad reading your post. You and I had planned to meet by now, and it just hasn't happened. I have a whole bunch of stuff going on as reasons why (kids after school running, overtime at work, father having bypass, meetings upon meetings with building a new home...) but I still feel guilty for not being more supportive of my OH friend!! Hope you'll forgive me! Lori H. Ohio Open Distal RNY 2/21/05 245/179/140
