How many onces per meal should I eat.
I am eating around 3 -4 ounces a meal. I am on the puddings soup and jello.
Is there any other food I can eat in this stage. I do have a appetite. I am really not feeling full. Is 4 meals enough a day. I am not getting my protein in yet and I am not making my water intake, I am afraid I am already strechhing my pouch
Thanks
Barb
Barb,
If I were you, I would be sure to check with my surgeon. I know that for an entire month following my surgery, I was only allowed to eat 1 oz of food every hour. The food that I was allowed at that point had to be strained & pureed... the easiest thing for me was to eat baby food, as I wasn't into all the work that straining & pureeing would have taken. I concentrated on the stage 1 & 2 meats.... and kept away from any of the fruits/desserts that had sugar added.
Of course, I also had to get in 8 oz. of water or other sugar-free, decaf beverage in between each of those 1 oz "mini-meals". I was told not to worry about the amount of protein at first, because it simply isn't physically possible to take in the required protein during month 1. They just recommended that I focus on getting as much as possible.... which usually equated to just 20 grams/day from the babyfood meats.
Once I was allowed to supplement with protein drinks, I was able to start getting in what my doctor required (at a minimum of 60 grams/day).
I am just now 3 1/2 months post surgery, and my meals are anywhere from 3 - 4 oz at a time. I do supplement with protein drinks, so usually only eat 3 meals per day. I am to a point where I get in about 700 - 900 calories per day and usually around 132 - 150 grams of protein per day. I feel much better at this higher amount of protein, which seems to satisfy my hunger levels much better than I was at just 60 grams/day.
Again, this is just what my doctor's protocol suggested. You really do need to check with your own surgeon before following someone else's regimen.
I hope that some of this helps!!!
I wish you the best & congratulations to being on the "losing side"!!!
Hugs, Karen

I was able to eat cottage cheese, popcicles, oatmeal and cream of wheat. I ate about 1/4 cup or 4 ounces of food per service 5-6 times a day. Eating every 2-3 hrs. Drink tha****er.. it helps you feel full. I still don't have an appetite 4 months out. I drank the flavored water and Propels just to have something different than plain water.
I hope this helps.... I am glad you are home and doing fine.
God Bless and Hugs,
Julie
Thanks that helped alot. Im just not feeling full. I need to cut back my eating.. I did have open surgery and was using an internal numbing pump. I think my stomach may still be a bit nub. I think that is why I am not feeling full. I will cut back I dont want to ruin my stomach.
Thanks and a hug sent your way
