Can someone point me in the right direction for taking out a medical loan? I'm in the process of the OSU program and have been given a price. I'll need to self pay as my insurance won't. I rent so don't have the opportunity of taking out a second mortage. I do work and can make payments, just want to get the best rate. Thanks.

There is a doctor in Mexico. I have read many of his profiles. He does it for like $10000.00 and that includes the trip and stay. I have read alot of postive stories about him. Most people are afraid to go out of the country. But if the doctor has a good reputation why not Take Care Barb

My only concern about going out of the country would be if you have problems after the surgery. Who do you go to then? How many trips would you be able to make back and forth if you had any problems? Dr. Curry's office has financial information available as do many other surgeons. Just my opinion but I would prefer to be as close to my surgeon as possible if any problems did arise. I'm sure there are options out there. Maybe someone on the board will have them. Best of luck to you!

I agree with that. I would want to be close to my Dr as well. I have also heard about Plastic surgery alot of patients are going out of the country for it. They say they can get it for half the price and quality service. This was also on the news how people are leaving the country for these surgeries to save money. I am afraid to leave the country. I have read profiles about all these people flying to mexico. They do not fly back and forth. They get them a new doctor once they are back. I was talking about the cost.

HI Jan, I would really talk to the people at the hospital and doctors, OSU billed my insurance for $40,589.60 of that the nego amount was only $8,153.40 that my insurance had to pay also the anestiologist billed for $4,220.00 and the nego amount was $633.00 and Dr. Mikami billed for $4,220.00 and insurance paid them $3,165.00 I was also billed by another doctor for $1,760.00 and the total paid by my insurance was $ 1,010.21 Out of all of this I only had to pay the $200 to OSU the day of surgery and my insurance company paid the rest. Now the $40,589 was for the day before surgery to, because I had a greenfield filter put in so I stayed an extra day, but I wanted to let you know what all the discounts are between Aetna and OSU so maybe you can get a deal to, its not fair for just insurances to get a break, I think self-pays should get a bigger discount since there isn't alot of billing involved and you pay up front!! I would call everyone and mention the amounts that I gave you, don't hurt to ask! TRUE?? I don't know what OSU quoted you on for everything but less then $17000 is probably alot less then they told you!! and that includes everyone, the doctor, hospital and the anestiologist!! WEll good luck!! Tabitha

My surgery was about $50,000, and out of that, I've had to pay $100 so far. I'm not sure what other bills I may have to pay, but surgery was 2 1/2 months ago, and have received no other bills. Have you thought about getting a different job with better insurance? Julie in Akron

Wow that was the same surgeon I had at first. I went with my network. It was closer to home. I wanted Dr Vil. He was really a great doctor and I really liked him. But I was looking at the drive. My doctor I have now is around 19000.00 . I think the reason yours was so high was because of that beautiful hospital they just built. . I have 2 insurance so I should not have to pay nothing. My total bill was near 100,000. Out of that I have paid about 300 dollars and that was only for office visits. I would look at different insurance plans before taking out a big loan, as it maybe cheaper to just pay for a different insurance. I had BCBS of Minn.
