Any Revisions Scheduled for September?
I know that you have your surgery already scheduled and I've heard that Dr. maguire is a good surgeon. But I read your profile where you said that you almost died the last time you had surgery and that your husband is very concerned. Please be careful. Did you consider getting a lap band over your pouch? That wouldn't be near as dangerous as a DS on someone with a BMI of 38.
I don't want to push my surgery on you. I was just moved by your profile.

Hi Cathy,
Thanks for your thoughtful reply. I did investigate lap and I asked Dr. Maguire (who I don't believe does lap bands, but I trust that he would tell me if he thought it was the best for me and send me to a good lap band surgeon) and he felt it wasn't my best option. Maybe the way my tummy is reconfigured, it would be hard to do?
Just to reassure you, and bless you for your concern, the whole abdominal thing was a comedy of errors. (Okay, it wasn't real funny at the time). Follow up after wls was scanty at best in the 80's, so I had no idea what was going on. Plus, I had moved out of state and the new doctors didn't know either. It was the blind leading the blind. Nothing was showing up on the x-rays (soft tissue doesn't, I guess, just on CTs)As I said, they would pop in an NG tuble, drain me until everything relaxed and settled down, and then send me home. But once I had an episode in Ohio and went to my original surgeon, he knew right off what the problem was and fixed me up.
I am blown away by the thorough pre-op education and post-op follow-up for wls these days. One of the possible problems Dr. Maguire went over was exactly what happened to me, and he advises that we make sure significant others understand, so if we are unable to speak for ourselves, they can be our advocates to get us swift and appropriate care. Plus, if you should move out of town, his office will contact your new physicians and give them a mini course in the care and feeding of wls patients.
I don't think you were pushing your surgery on me and it sounds like from your profile you are very happy and having a lot of success with the band. We are so lucky that there so many options out there for us---as we have learned--lol---one size does NOT fit all!
Thank you for your thoughts,
Darlene
