Hi, I am new to this arena but need your input. I have already met with a local surgeon, got pumped up about the idea of a lap band but found out there is an exclusion policy from my insurance co. Has anyone been successful completely overturning it ? I have yet to do a sleep eval or psyche eval b/c I don't want to waste my time and money . With a daughter going to college next year, I don't think we could afford to private pay. Is the lap band worth it? As a nurse, I am afraid of a Rny. Any encouragement? Forget It? thanks, Peggy

Exclusions are exclusions.... try shopping for another insurance company if you can. If you have to self pay, then perhaps take out a loan. Don't miss this opportunity! My thoughts are with you.

Many times, your employer has the power to overide things that are exclusions. Talk to your comp and benefits person and plead your case. Let them know they will save money in the long run by not having to pay the costs of caring for comorbidities, complications, etc. And don't be afraid of RNY. I researched it for a couple of years before I had it and felt very confident that it was safe. Join a support group of WLS patients and talk to them about both RNY and lap band. Best of luck on your journey, Nancy
