Ulcer help! Dr. C?

I've developed an ulcer after another surgery unrelated to my bypass and for the last few days it has been as I told Dr. Curry, been kicking my a**! I'm taking the med prescribed by the doctor but I can't keep any solids or for that matter liquids down. Needless to say, my pain meds are pills and they won't stay down either. Does anyone have an ulcer and what do you do when your food, liquids and pain meds don't stay down? I've tried broth..jello? Forget it...it comes up immediately. Solid foods make my belly ache. Luckily my vitamins are staying down. About the only thing I can manage are crackers and even they make me ill.

Cathy, I don't know what regimen was prescribed but you need Carafate suspension and Nexium, also eliminate absolutely all NSAID's and caffeine. It takes a long time for a marginal ulcer to heal. C

I'm taking the carafate suspension as prescibed by the stomach doctor. Not sure what NSAID's are. I see the stomach man on Thursday so maybe he can get me a better explanation of this ulcer. Thanks Dr.C!

Cathy, I've developed a stress-related ulcer (or so my surgeon is pretty sure, since my upper GI shows everything else is okay). Dr. Kerlakian (my surgeon) put me on Nexium and as Dr. C said, NO CAFFEINE or NSAIDS! I've been on the Nexium since Friday and I'm already beginning to notice a little improvement. I had gotten to the point where I couldn't even drink water! Good luck to you. Look into that Nexium! Sheil

Thanks for responding Sheila. I'll ask my doctor about the Nexium. I sure don't want another round of the pain that I experienced a few weeks ago!

Not sure what NSAID's are?? Those are meds like Ibuprofen, Aleve, Advil Etc.. I have had a killer headache and body aches since the Kings Island Trip and almost broke down and took an Aleve tonight. I read your post about how miserable you are and I changed my mind.. I hope that you find a treatment for whats ailing you .. Big Hugs from me, Laura

Thanks Laura....this morning the dreaded ulcer seems to be calmer. I ate my hard boiled egg and so far so good. Maybe it just thought I needed a kick in the pants to remind me that it is still there!
