I'm researching WLS, specifically DS. Does anyone have any information about the UC Center for Weightloss?

Dr. Gersin was my surgeon and he and his team/associates are absolutely wonderful! They require you to attend an informational seminar where they give you all the details on the types of surgery, etc., as well as hand out a packet of information outlining all the things that need to be done in order to qualify for surgery. They also require you to attend at least one support group meeting before they will even submit your packet to the insurance company. Their support group meetings are held once a month at the Mason Community Center. They are usually the third Thursday of the month from 6-8 pm. At every support group meeting they have a guest speaker and the topics range from nutrition to psychology to exercise before and after surgery, etc. They are always very informative. I had my surgery on January 10th and have had absolutely no complications whatsoever. The surgery was lap RNY. To date I have lost approximately 75 pounds and I am very pleased with the results. I can eat anything I want, just in moderate proportions. The only thing that doesn't agree with me are greasy foods but I shouldn't be eating those anyway! Here is a link to their forum: http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/forums/?ID=TR-999728933 Good luck. Lani

I had Dr. Selwyn from UC as my surgeon. As the last post said, they are all AWESOME A+ A+ A+. They will go out of their way for you. They are with you the ENTIRE journey. The follow up is critical and they are with you for life, literally. You will not have to worry about having the surgery then having no support or follow through with them, they let you know that their program is for life. I would strongly recommend at least attending their informational meeting, you have to call ahead and register. This is definatly something you need to research. Dr. Selwyn posts on this board, so you can post here and get answers from him. Dr. Curry from Deaconess also posts on here, and I know many people that have gone through his program as well. You definatly need to find the program that works best for your needs. Good luck in your search. SHerri

Hi J! I'm sorry if this is too late... My name is Amanda, and I live in Akron, Ohio. I had DS (open) on September 22, 2005. I am 1 month post-op, and down nearly 40 pounds! I went down to Dayton, Ohio for my DS. (Dr. Maguire, he is one of the best!) You can check out his site, at www.newlifesurgery.com Contact me if you need any more info, okay? For now, Amanda Leigh
