Beefy Subject
I am 3 months post op today and tried eating some beef. Not ground beef, which I do well with. But regular slow cooked beef, nice and tender. For the past 2 hours I thought I was going to die.. The stomach pain and sternum pain was horrible. I got the foamies and did a lot of dry heaving but never did vomit. I keep burping horrible disgusting burps, but they are the only thing thats helping.
Any idea what caused it, and how does the body know so quickly it doesnt like whats put into it. I would figure it would need some time to digest for the pouch to decide if it liked it. But this was within a minute or so of the food getting in my stomach. I know one thing for sure, I wont be attempting steak or beef for a very long time. Is this a form of dumping??? I was sweating, headachy, nauseous, in pain, felt like vomiting....
Thanks for your input
Laura
Did the meat contain a lot of fat? Did you chew really well? I have pain from red meat (because it tends to be stringy) if I forget to chew well enough. in the future if this happens to you, take a teaspoon of meat tenderizer in 4 oz of water and drink as much as you can. It will help break down the tough fibers in the meat. Sorry you had this experience, it really stinks when it happens.
Feel better,

I had trouble with meat too after a few months. I just had it again last week and it was fine. Last night we went to Carrabas and I had a very little of shrimp scampi. Garlic and butter are a real no-no for me . I was sick, really sick all night. I should have just had plain shrimp. Never again will I ever try that. It just looked so good. UGGGGGG. I just ordered the appitizer and I paid but good. Just lay off of the meat for awhile and try it again later. I had fillet and thats the only steak I will ever try. We live and learn in this adventure, good luck, Love, Cindy
Laura....
I discussed that issue with Dr Mikami on my last visit. I still cannot do beef at all. Only in Chilli. He said beef is one of the hardest meats to digest. He said if I was going to eat beef.. I would have to mince it.
Everytime I eat beef I get sick. So I just stay away from it. I can do Beef Jerky now, but that is about it.
Congrats on your weight loss I am so proud and jealous of you....lol
I wish I had more time to workout, but I have been busy going to baseball games since May. We just finished up today.
You take care.....

I sympathise with you Laura. I have a hard time with beef and tend to stay away from it. I did a small piece of roast last week and cooked it in the crock pot for about 10 hours. It was so tender that it just fell apart. When I took it out I cut it into the smallest pieces that I could and kept reminding myself to take tiny tiny bites. I was able to get it down and keep it there. Then I made the mistake of taking to big of a bite and had the same reaction that you had. Not a good thing and I know how you feel. So now when I attempt beef, its only tiny tiny bites. Hopefully you will soon be able to tolerate beef again. It used to be one of my favorite meats. I'm so sick of chicken that I think I cluck in my sleep!
