Question about sleep study.

Hello everyone, I was called earlier tonight by the nurse where I am having my sleep study done Monday night and she told me that they were going to do a split study so they can get the results of the test done and I can get my surgery date. What is a split study? I don't even know what will actually happen at the study. I will be seeing the doctor tomorrow so maybe he will be able to better clarify what will happen and what the split study is. Rocquetta

which center you going to? The one off Sylvania perhaps? A split study is, if you show signs of sleep apnea the first night, you'll have to do a second night where they can then calibrate the c-pap machine to your needs. 1st night is pretty much observation, However they might want you to stay the full 2 days and take "naps" also. I had to do 2 nites and a full day. hugs,

Hi Vickie, How are you feeling? Car running better? I am going to the Pulmonary & Critical Care Specialists at TTH. The nurse there said that the study will be done in one night if it is needed. They are trying to get it done so they can schedule me for surgery within the first 2 weeks of August. Trying to schedule me around my husbands vacation he has those 2 weeks off and can't change them because he didn't have 30 days notice of the change. I didn't think I would need one but with my mom having sleep apnea they wanted to check to make sure. I only snore a little from what my husband says. I don't have any other symptoms to say I do have sleep apnea. They just want to make sure so they have no suprises after surgery. Thanks for the information Rocquetta

rocquetta, the split is where for the first half of the study(same night) you sleep with nomachine but the other half they will put the machine on and adjust it.if needed.. i go for mine on aug 5th and i am also haveing the split so that the insurance company will have proof that i have sleep apnea. do you have the apnea? richard w

Richard, Thank you for the information. They don't think I do but because if runs in my family they want to make sure so there are no surprises after surgery. And the reason for the split is to get the procedure done right away so I can have the surgery ASAP. Rocquetta

Rocquetta, Mine was a split study where they got three-four hours as a baseline then they put the cpap machine on and calibrated it for my needs. It was all done in one night. Good luck! Luann

Luann, Thank you! I just got back from the doctor and he explained to me that they would do half the night for reference and then if they seen any problems that they would put me on a machine and get it set right so that way i will only have to wait 2 weeks for the surgery instead of coming back in 2 weeks and then having to wait another 2 weeks for surgery. He also feels that I don't have sleep apnea but the test will make sure so we will have no worries for surgery. My sister is coming home from Germany on the 3rd of August so if they can't get it scheduled before my husband is off vacation she will be home to help with the kids while he is at work. Rocquetta

Vickie, I WOULD LOVE FOR YOU TO BE MY ANGEL!!!!! Wow that would mean so much to me. And wow about your son. I pray mine are that ambitious. You must have done an awesome job with your children. Don't forget if you ever need a ride to a meeting I would be more than willing to pick you up. My car isn't the best but it gets me from point A to point B.
